Omega Speedmaster 105.003 Ed White Originality Check

I was looking at this site today, which lists the various incremental changes in the Speedmaster design :

https://monochrome-watches.com/omega-speedmaster-history-part-1-early-pre-moons/

Their photo of the "transitional" model 105.012 shows what appears to be the same square-end chrono seconds hand as on my watch, with a start-date given as 1963.

Bearing in mind that my seconds hand has aged lume which looks like the same shade as that on the other hands and, more significantly, on the hour batons - and the fact that the serial number is apparently very late - is it possible that this watch was factory-built with the later hand-set which they were using on the 105.012 ?

The watch is still in transit, but I should be able to provide better photos in a few days once my watchmaker has opened it.

No. The straight end sweep was introduced sometime during the 145.012-67 and 145.012-68 reference. Not during 105.012 references. If you see one on a 105.012 or an Ed White it is a replacement.

The engraving inside caseback looks etched, not stamped. This was added later IMO on the incorrect caseback. Whether that could have been a service replacement may be possible, but unlikely from Omega. Perhaps a watchmaker swapped caseback and added the 105.003. One can only guess on these things and without detailed service records impossible to know.

So you have what appears to be late run SN for 105.003 consistent with -65, with at least replaced sweep and incorrect caseback. Both are fixable.
I wouldn't be buying parts yourself before you even get the watch- better to leave that to watchmaker at time of service.

I highly doubt that this is an original configuration:

Great differences between hands- and dial lume

How about the bezel? This is neither a DON bezel nore a DNN

That looks like the service bezel that Omega replaces old bezels with during a full overhaul. I have one like that on my 1996 Speedy Pro where they also replaced the hands with superluminova hands.

To avoid confusion that is not the OP’s watch, he was just using it as an example for the hands.

Thank you @AHW for clarifying this!

Yes indeed, I was not speaking about the OP watch

My point was to raise the question if Monochrome-Watches is a reliable source for informations about pre-moon Speedmasters and I'm not convinced about that.

Little polywatch on the crystal to buff out the light scratches will help. Look forward to seeing some good photos and how you decide to go about it.

And on the plus side, your watchmaker will become your good friend with this.
