Nice one! Congrats!
Did you ask what the engraving on the caseback means?

Nah. As said, I regretfully didn’t win.
I did ask about the engraving, but didn’t learn much about it. To my eyes, it’s pretty nicely done so it wouldn’t bother me in the slightest to own this piece, with the engraving. Alas, it didn’t happen. Next. 😉

Aludic where are you located?

I live in the US and I feel like my market has shrunk for the time being. And if I were in the market for a vintage Speedmaster I'd have to limit to sellers here in the States. Is that fair?

Perhaps that’s yet another reason this one sold at such a high price in spite of economic uncertainty and all that other turmoil. I think many Americans feel (rightfully or not) restricted to buying Swiss watches locally as a result of those unpalatable tariffs.

That said, I’m based in Europe so also for me there would still be some tax (ie vat) to be paid on top of a wining bid.

The collector community has a tendency to think 2005 was yesterday sometimes as far as prices go. I've been guilty of thinking of prices I paid in 2015 just being a couple of years ago.

True this. But I will say though that it’s always better to “overpay” for quality pieces.

I remember when LouS picked up a very clean, very sharp, highly attractive CK2998-62 for $7,000 there were a lot of comments like, wow that's steep but a damn nice watch. It took about 18 months for it to go from steep to a steal lol

Speedmaster prices have dropped significantly in the past 5 years. Most of us are pretty well aware of the market, there are just different opinions. And when someone overpays, many members just like to be nice about it.

True in general but what happens is when prices are declining owners of the nicest pieces don’t sell. Or sometimes they just don’t sell in any market! 😉And sometimes when they do sell these pieces fetch good prices anyway from collectors keeping their powder dry.

In general; agree. In this particular case nobody here overpaid, unless the winner is secretly in our midst. 😉

Love to see what it looks like cleaned up and in good photos. 🥰
