Hi, I just bought a used Omega Speedmaster Professional 3572.50 and I noticed that the second hand moves slightly backwards (anti-clockwise 1/5 second) when I push the start button to start the chronograph. The watch is keeping accurate time though (accuracy around -4 sec/day). Is this normal? Thank you!

 

Yes you just add those 1/5th of a sec to your final measurements .

 

Or start the chrono 1/5 of a sec early

 

If this is consistently turning backwards when you engage the chronograph, it could be that the hammer is slightly magnetized, or there is excess oil on the hammer/cam of the chronograph runner. There are other less common reasons for this also, but they often result in more movement than just 1/5th of a second.

If it only does it once in a while, then just the luck of the draw as the teeth of the chronograph runner and coupling wheel meet each other.
