More info needed. What model, movement? Some movements are routinely changed, most others not.

'74 Speedmaster with R ????? instead of the usual XXmil stamp.
All I'm trying to discover is whether this is something that Omega would do, would it put others off etc.

Yes, Omega used some serial numbers with an R prefix, and the best I've been able to figure out is that these were movements that were completely replaced for some reason.

From Work Instruction 44, which deals with exchanged of numbered components...

    "Movements with an R… number

There are movements existing with serial numbers beginning with the letter «R» before the numbers.

These movements should be treated the same as all the other numbered movements."

They are legit movements certainly, but of course this doesn't say anything about how people would value them.

    Cheers, Al

    This thread has no pictures.

This service movement has an R.38XXX serial number.
What does this mean? I.e. is it the 38 representative of a 38mil SN (so late 70s)?
