Haven't seen any Omega looking like that before or after . Have seen the specific watch for sale though . But doesn't think he was able to sell it . I have given up tying to find the original reference for it . If it ever existed i don't now ?

I have a SEAMASTER1983 MARINER III ST 396.0986, with original Omega steel strap 1394/087 with 18k gold alternate links, and with Ω folding clasp. The gold applications are now badly tarnished., and will not clean up

Teading the thread above, my above watch was purchased in Darwin Australia in 1986.

I had “18k Gold applications” on alternate links and they are now severely tarnished - some parts almost blue, and spoils the look. ( I did not use it for over 15 years, as it was really a dress watch and not really water resistant despite Omega’s claim it was good to 30m). However , looking at the comments from Periwhuskey above ( who bought a similar one the same year, 1986, in Brisbane Australia, it may be mine is gilt and hence the tarnishing over the years.

I recently came into possession of my late father’s watch which looks exactly like the piece in the first photo above. I’ve had a rather fruitless search trying to establish its reference, up until reading through these posts.....sort of!
I guess all will be revealed when the battery needs replacing. It has 1420 stamped on the case, and 1448/431.8 on the clasp.

Welcome to the forum, Nice piece which will reveal all once inside caseback is seen. 1420 is the movement number IIRC

I'd say it's an Omega 396.0938, Seamaster Mariner III, as @STANDY noted, 1420 is the caliber (movement). If the battery hasn't been changed for a while, or if the watch has stopped you should remove the battery ASAP as they can leak and cause damage.

I quite like my version ;).

    Hello from Brisbane Australia,
I purchased the 'mystery' model in 1987 from a family owned chain of jewelry stores, specifically the one at Indooroopilly Shopping Town.
Last week I had the battery replaced, seals checked and a general clean.
Here is a photo of inside the back case and of the watch. Note the original band.
    Hope this answers some questions.

    Hi periwhisky,
I too purchased the one you did and also in Brisbane around the same time (1987). I have a couple of photos on my post 02 Oct 2020.

Not a single bit of Omega re-branding there. It's clearly the correct ETA base movement but that is unusual, I would have expected something, 1430 stamped on there for instance, but maybe that is how they came.

Thank you very much for the photo

Totally agree with you. I will assume that the mechanism was changed in this particular watch.

I believe I may have this one? I am trying to find out as much about this watch as possible and this post seems to be the closest I’ve got. Any info would
    Be greatly appreciated.
