But apart from the fact that there are different views for aesthetic reasons, the fact remains that narrower bracelets give less support on the wrist. Or do you disagree there as well?

Definitely depends on watch size, weight and height.
Kind of still disagree too... "support" as you're calling it I would wager is more determined by watch caseback, the user themselves ~ above or below the ulna bone ~ and then lastly bracelet/strap width... and even then, bracelet/strap width at the lugs and as it transitions around the wrist.

I say all that because I am continually surprised (to the positive) at how light and seemingly inconsequential a bracelet in hand is/can be (eg: a Forstner Komfit or Bonklip) yet how absolutely perfectly they do "supporting" a larger/heavier watch head.

I don’t disagree. My only issue was that the chunky bracelet and clasp was somewhat out of kilter with the nature of the watch IMO.

it’s one of the few I’ve traded away that I miss

Rightly so! 😉

Hello friends, I present to you my Railmaster Trilogy.
Is it better with the barrel or with the strap?
Second shot shows the omega logo at center nicely!

Well, it is as always a matter of personal taste, but I will never understand. In my world there would be no tapered bracelets at all.

You brought joy and pleasure to so many readers (me included!) on your VC Overseas review, that it still has a strong impression on me years later. But um.... doesn't your Vacheron Constantin Overseas taper from 23mm at the lug, to 20mm at the clasp? 😉 Haha, just jabbing your ribs in good humour and out of curiosity, since I highly value your opinions as an experienced collector. Please don't think I'm this up from a confrontational angle. I'm just very curious how your view above reconciles with the exquisitely beautiful integrated bracelet design & finishing on your Overseas.

I ultimately sold my LE 1957 Seamaster partly because I found the bracelet too thick. Especially the clasp. It felt out of proportion to me, to have such an enormous bulked up clasp on a vintage re-issue! I really enjoyed wearing the trilogy piece on leather though. I had also brushed the trilogy bracelet, which I quite enjoyed the appearance of. But when I was rotating between the 1957 Seamaster and my old 2220.80 Seamaster, one day I had a epiphany that the trilogy's bracelet and clasp was just never going to be a good match for me.

First of all, I don't feel offended by you at all. Why? Because you're absolutely right, of course.

I probably should have been much more precise with my previous statement. After all, almost all bracelets are tapered. But I'm talking about the ratio between the lug and clasp width. 20/18, which is probably the most common variant, is absolutely fine. For me, that's a good ratio. 23/20 as with the Vacheron Constantin Overseas also fits, especially because the 20mm on the clasp is substantial. I only really have a problem with the very delicate 15mm of the new Speedmaster bracelets, because I think it looks too small on the lower wrist.

In the end, it always comes down to personal preferences, individual aesthetic sensibilities and quite simply personal taste.

But I will never forgive you for catching me with the VC. ☺️

Really nice watch. I always wanted to try it but didn't get my hand on one yet. Both options you show look great. If I had to choose, I'd go with the bracelet. Works in every situation 😀

Always wore mine on the bracelet. I felt that the there was too much gap between the spring bars and the case thus straps did not look that good. Regret selling, great piece.

It looks great on the strap, but looks like it would go well on just about anything.

FWIW I think the whole trilogy looks really really awesome on the OEM bracelets. I think it's the combo of the steel bezels with the steel bracelet - they just look like mid-century tool watch goodness.

I know hardly anything about the Railmaster except that it a) looks great on both those straps/bracelet and b) it is one of the classiest looking Omegas I have ever seen.

I’m jealous! Hopefully someday I’ll be able to find one that’s obtainable
