I recently sold my 2009 Omega Seamaster 41mm electric blue ref#22.55.8000. I bought it 2 years ago from the original owner and it was just back from Omega service. The watch is mint. Anyways, the guy who bought the watch is asking me for his money back because the lume is straight missing from half the 12 spot (Triangle) and. half the 1 spot (line representing 1. I don't know what to do or say! I have never seen this before. Please help, is it possible to fix or is this normal?

Do you have photos of the watch before it was sold to him.

The lume is clearly missing, and it's a substantial amount of lume. It's enough lume that if it had fallen off after you sold it to him, it would be floating around inside the watch, and easily seen, like this:

So there's no doubt you need to refund the purchaser and get the watch back. I would then follow-up with Omega, because it's odd to me that they would have not at least told you about this and recommended a dial replacement.

Cheers, Al

I sold it to him 5 days ago so it’s not his fault for sure. I’ve just never seen this happen before nor did I notice it. Do you have any idea what the cost to fix it would be?

Thanks for responding Al, I’m going to refund him because I sold the watch in good faith and I would be very upset had I bought it and a few days later noticed this. I want to sell the watch though. It’s in excellent condition otherwise and even the original red box, cardboard box and hardcover manual are mint. It’s just those two pieces of lume. Makes no sense to me. It’s as if they scraped it offf by accident?!

So when you say it was just back from service at Omega, was that when you bought it 2 years ago, or did you have it serviced before you sold it?

Was the service done in Canada (Toronto service center) as far as you know?

It's going to need a new dial to look completely original - someone may be able to relume those 2 plots, but I'm not sure they would look 100% right. New dial is $640 so you know, so if someone buys this and wants to fix it, they will need to account for that cost, plus the labour of someone to swap the dial.

Scary stuff, last I got an SMP dial swapped it was like £125 GBP so around $185 CAD for the part, they have clearly gone up rather a lot.

Dials were one of the first things I noticed that doubled or tripled overnight...

When was the last time you checked the lume on your watch before selling it? Was it after the Omega service? Seems odd that the watch would lose part of the paint on only the 12 and 1 hour mark.

That's very weird. I mean, I would accept that the lume has fallen off on one index, but on two and at the same height? Watch could have fallen somewhere. If there is no scratches on the case, maybe on something soft like carpet, but still hard enough to break that lume.

Question is : where is the missing lume gone ?
The watch should now look like Archer's pictures, with fallen parts of lume visble on the dial ...

OP, is there a chance you bought it in this condition and never noticed it ?
First thing i do when i get a new toy is to put it under strong light for a few seconds and then run into the toilet, light off, to admire the lume
