Are you happy with your electric blue?

Still searching for my first Seamaster and I’ve seen quite a few Electric Blue’s pop up that are pretty affordable. My grail is a 2254.50 but the EB’s are a good 500-1k less expensive in some cases. Will the EB scratch the itch or is it a compromise?

Get your grail, it will be worth the 500-1k.

I agree, for that amount, I would go for the grail. You will still think about it if you get the other one.

The electric blue is a beautiful watch but I still prefer my 2254. Is it really that much difference in price?

That's what I have seen as well! I haven't checked it against watch charts but I know the 2254 has both maintained and it seems to have gained popularity lately on some of the forums.

To the OP: go for the watch you really want. If you WANT blue, that's a whole other thing, but in my experience getting the 'almost-but-not-quite' watch can be even worse than just switching gears and getting something totally different.

I'm happy and I don't even have one. Yet. I have a 2254.50. Get both.

I had a 2254.50 and love it. I also tried on a 2254.50 with an EB dial swap. The EB is a beautiful dial. It's a different look.

You can have both if you got an extra dial and swapped it. But you'd have to wear just the one as it obviously isn't practical to swap dials often.

If you make the decision primarily on cost, it will likely cost you more as you may begrudgingly wear the watch and eventually sell it to get what you really wanted. But if you get a black dial because everyone says it's better but you really like the EB, then you won't be happy either.

It'd be great if you could see them in person. If not, try to imagine you bought the watch and then how would you feel the next day. Happy or like you got the wrong one?

You can't go wrong with either watch. But you can go wrong if you don't get what you really want. They aren't hard to find, although it takes some time to find a nice condition one priced right. So you can afford to be patient.

Best of luck. You have good taste.

I love my EB, my favorite watch by far. I find the black dial of the 2254 a bit boring. The 2255 can change from deep blue to electric blue depending on lighting, it really is special. Plus, the all steel bezel is a bit more durable and makes the dial pop even more. When I was looking at the Seamasters of that generation, for me it wasn't even a contest between the 2254 and 2255. It was 2255 without question. But you said that your grail is the 2254, so if that's the case, don't compromise.

Don't settle or you will regret it. Either stretch your budget to get the 2254 or save longer. The EB is still pretty expensive (compared to the "average" wristwatch) and then you'll be out the money and still wish you had the 2254 instead.

Whaaaat! That`s like saying the Speedy pro is boring! ehh wait .......Carry on. 😉

I fully agree with you, the electric blue is a beautiful, striking watch but I have been looking at my 2254 for years now thinking "that a beautiful and cool watch". Had I been looking at an electric blue I would have thought the same thing for sure. But I love the simple black and white, utilitarian look of watches like 2254, Speedy, Sinn 556 or maybe some of the MOD dirty dozen watches. Either way they are great watches and if OP gets the "wrong" one it`s easily swapped to the "right" one as they both keep their value and are readily available.

I am going to trow another Seamaster into the mix. The gen 1 ceramic Seamasters, love that glossy black dial.

Pic form the net.

I love the EB dial. Blue is my favorite color. But I'd replace the bezel with the blue Bond bezel. I think that's an amazing combo.

Is the bezel the aluminium one or an aftermarket ceramic one?
I really like blue on blue look and wouldn’t mind doing the same to mine for a while.

Why the $h!t didn’t Omega offer this dial/bezel combination? Absolutely perfect.

Is it as good a colour match in person as it looks in pictures?

For the price, can't really beat it. Also comes with a movement which pretty much any watchmaker can work on for a service. Looks great on a bracelet, leather, rubber, and different nato combos.

The sword hands, beautiful guilloche dial wave pattern, and big wedge of lume has always been a winner. Wish they would bring that option back versus the skeleton hands. Still has that tool watch aspect to it but refined.
