Omega Seamaster Identification

That is my impression, but I won't argue against TNTwatch or Gator, who are more well-versed in this than I am 馃榾

Was thinking the exact same thing, but did not want to step in when I'm here to learn.... The vertical line seems poor, could it be a casualty of the lacquer bubbling? I think if the line was hurt during that patina process, it would make more sense they only touched the crosshairs. Not sure! Curious to know what @gatorcpa & @TNTwatch think of our concern. Find it hard to believe that crosshair would stay so dark through the ware and tear.

Hope everyone is enjoying the Holiday Season! Stay safe & travel safer.

I'm a bit surprised that so many vouch for the dial on the golden Seamaster - aren't those crosshairs to thickly applied? I guess it just looks odd to me.

I'm not concerned about the crosshairs since they're not clumsy or too thick to me. What's important to me are the Seamaster script which appears perfect, and the patina and general dial condition, which is consistent with original dials of this two tone style.

Here are some examples of original not-thin crosshairs:

Thank you @TNTwatch - Tons of insight after looking further into the photos provided and comparing them to the OP. I appreciate the time taken to put that together for me.

Best,

Thomas

thanks alot for your opinions.
any advice which reference it may be?
2577 as mentioned or the 2520 I have never heard before.
what could be the possible value of those two?

Just want to caution everyone here. I never expressed an opinion whether these dials are original or not. There just isn't enough evidence to say one way or the other without know the specific case references of the watches.

What I did say (and @TNTwatch backed up) is that there are original dials that have heavy crosshairs and pointed A's.

T眉rler is a Swiss jewelry store that sold Omega watches. Having this second signature on a dial is a good, but not definitive, sign of originality. Most rediallers aren't going to reprint that on a dial.

Hope this helps,
gatorcpa

That last photo makes me think redial again. The hour markers aren't consistent in how they overlap the hash marks on the inner part of the dial...

I am with you ConElPueblo. The gold one doesn't look original to me.
And please don't trust Turler or Tiffany&Co etc...
I know guys who have those printings and can apply on the dial for you less than $5 cost.

Hah, it can be seen in the first post of the thread. It's minor and there can be other causes for that than just redialing. Nothing's perfect and if that's the only one fault compared to other signs, it's not enough to conclude a redial.

A quick look at images of Turler dials on the web would indicate that they all seem to be done in a serif font and most have a wide Umlaut over the U. That does not appear to be the case here, however, if sans-serif Turlers exist, I'm sure someone will chip in 馃憥

Let麓s say the Turler script is not sure - actually it appears to be a complicated stuff - the rest if the dial is good to me. So at worse, someone added a Turler script to that dial. It may of course be possible, but I think it is unlikely.

Well, after reading again the thread, in particular Gatorcpa messages, I cancel my "pretty sure" for the Turler (not to be a redial). You never know.

But I do not see any sign that it is a redial: shall we consider, when it does not appear to be a redial, that it is original? To be as "sure" as possible, surely a comparison with other dials from the same ref and with the same scripts would be usefull.

Perhaps a better photo would help (sharper not necessarily bigger) but right now I am not liking the cross hairs on the GC.

OK , with the last GC photo, the answer is redial. The horizontal line is above the minute markers.

These numbers are just guesses based on appearance. You can use a bounce ball to twist open the backs to get the reference numbers, or bring them to a watchmaker to check for you.

The steel one is worth about $700, more or less. The gold one doesn't have a good condition dial so it's worth its weight in gold plus a few hundreds.

How come OMEGA is so close to the logo?

It's just the shadow that causes the illusion. It's actually no closer than the other watches above.

Not sure that showing numerous other watches that are not redials and have better looking dials proves anything about the original gold watch. Perhaps an actually sharp image of the watch.
