Hi guys,

interesting listing was on eBay. But prototype? Imho a really nice looking Seamaster. I would love to know your thoughts. And no, I did not buy I, because
1- I thought it was too much of a risk considering no movement details.
2-bezels was type 2B2
3-non original hand as stated.

But still there are some prototype questions like the bracelet and case. So did someone make an excelllent deal here?

No link. Did it sell? What was the price?

These pics look like they were taken under the lamp that keeps the fries warm at the diner.

For posterity, it sold for 7,050 euros (approx. 7,835 USD). I agree with @wouter van wijk in that there's just not enough in the photos and listing. Of course if there were good, clear photos taken in daylight it might have gone for several thousands more.

The prototype / Monoco story on these is an interesting angle. I know Omega created extracts calling these prototypes, but at minimum they made 151 of those (50 for Monoco, 1 for Jacques Cousteau, and 100 more for the public). To me that's no longer a prototype, it's a limited edition.

Add to that the murky numbering, and it becomes like the Speedmaster 125 or the 145.029's with unexplained numbers/codes. An interesting quirk, but I'm uncertain whether it adds any value.

Why do you think the hands and the bezel are not original to the watch ?

I don't think that the new owner will be happy with that watch. That watch belongs to a collector friend. His entire collection was stolen last year and this watch was one of the collection. The number on the case makes it easy to identify.

UUuuuugh, I am very happy to see that those watches resurface. Hope the cops will do their job and will be able to reverse the resell process up to the burglars

some really interesting insights here. I don't know how many of those strange dials were made and what the numbers are of the quartz version etc. I really love the design of this piece though. some really cool pedigree and it looks way more wearable than the ploprof

What I know is that the cops and the insurance is informed that one the watches was popping up on ebay. I dont know whats going on now behind the scene. I assume that they will contact ebay to get more information about the seller.

What I can share are more information about the history of the watch. My friend bought it from the son of the original owner. The original owner was a diving instructor in Switzerland and got this watch from Omega around 1971 for testing. After the test Omega decided to give him the watch. So the Monaco story is nonsense in this case.

Wow, incredible. Hopefully spotting that listing will lead to the recovery of some or all of the stolen pieces!
