Hi everyone!
First post here—like on Twitter (X!), I’m not super active with comments, but I’ve been reading a ton, obsessing over topics, and really enjoying the community.

I’ve decided that my first “big” watch will be an Omega, and for some reason I’ve become completely hooked on the Seamaster GMT 50th Anniversary—ref. 2534.50.00, the one with the Bond-style bracelet. Not the 2234.50, not the Great White (2538.20.00)—this one really hits the sweet spot for me. I love the vintage touch of the gold Omega logo and the slightly more dressy vibe of that first release. Great size, bold but wearable, nice colors… just an all-around awesome everyday watch in my eyes.

I see quite a few listings online, but as a novice, I’d love some guidance. Any trusted sources or tips on where to safely pick one up?

Thanks in advance!

Mic

Funny, that was my first “big” watch as well, but I purchased mine new in 2003. Sold it about 10 years later because I wanted something new. Wish I had kept it.

Only advice I have is if you want that particular version with the Bond-style bracelet and you want the correct bracelet, make sure you look carefully at the pictures. The bracelet for that model doesn’t have a diver-style clasp, but a more integrated one with a gold Omega logo. Like this (although this pic is from a 120m model).

The version with that bracelet was only available for a year or two (1998-2000). Later models had a Speedmaster-style bracelet with a larger diver’s clasp.

Only other advise is that if the hour hand starts slipping, it’s time for a service — this is a common fault. I had to have it fixed during warranty because of this. And independent can do it, but make sure they replace the hour wheel. If they don’t (and not all independents replace parts if they don’t have a parts account with Omega), you’ll still have the problem.

Hey Donn! Thanks so much for the reply! And yes, that’s exactly the bracelet I like. I’ve been doing some research online and it looks like most listings come with the Speedmaster-style bracelet (2234.50), but I’ll keep looking and hopefully find a good, trustworthy/well reviewed seller.
I actually don’t mind the rubber strap version either—it gives it a sportier vibe. Might grab that one later on and switch things up!

From your experience, what platforms do you find most reliable for buying? I’ll be traveling to Japan later this year for my honeymoon, and I was wondering if it's worth waiting to look there. Though from what I’ve seen online, some pieces tend to be a bit overpolished—could just be the photos, though, you always need to see things in person to truly understand.

Appreciate the help!
