·I first and foremost like to take the time to thank OF for the space and providing me with the information to research and be able to write listings like this. I tend do like the research and doing the write ups so I hope you guys enjoy the read.
Before we get to it I just wanted to say that I believe this a front loading case so I was unable to open it to grab reference number, serial, or movement shot. No one local capable but anticipate being able to get to a watchmaker in a couple of weeks or so if that ends up being a hang up. Anyway, here it goes!
"But look closer. But look closer still. Look at the "A" in "Tiffany" and see a picture of me as a young child." - John Mayer on the 1st episode of "Talking Watches"
It's true. Take a look at this Omega and it will look like a very clean example of your everyday, normal, very charming 1960's Seamaster. But upon closer examination you'll see an extra line of text that you just don't see everyday .. "Meister."
Meister was a high end retail store located in Switzerland. Back in the 1960's and 1970's Meister - similar to Tiffany's & Rolex - received watches from Omega at which point in time they were then allowed to stamp the name of their retail store directly on the dial.
This, at least to me personally, is what I love about vintage watches. Something so simple, unassuming, understated and completely under the radar. It looks like a normal seamaster until you take a closer look. Make no mistake - from a technical standpoint it is no way superior to its non Meister branded Seamaster brother. There are though less double stamped Meister dial seamasters floating around. I completely understand that it’s not for everyone but for those - like me - who more drawn to the rarity aspect of collecting it might be worth paying a little bit of a premium for.
ABOUT THIS WATCH
Omega Seamaster - Meister Retail signed.
REFERENCE: 14743? Maybe based on pictures and research on omegas archives or a 14910 judging from @nomercy previous for sales post.
YEAR: 1960s
CASE: The 34mm gold capped over stainless steel case has been polished in the past. The lugs retain some of their original definition but the edges have softened over time. The desirable seamaster hippocampus on the caseback is in good shape without any major wear. The case is completed by its original, omega signed, flat foot crystal and crown.
DIAL: A super clean, white sunburst finished, cross-hair dial stamped with "Meister" retail name at 6 o'clock. The tritium lume on the alpha hands have aged to an attractive beige and match the lume on the dial perfectly.
MOVEMENT: Presumably caliber 562
BRACELET: Comes on a genuine leather strap.
ACCESSORIES: Watch only.
BANK WIRE PRICE: $1,150 shipped. Hard one to get a comp for. My logic was this: I took the lowest priced relative comp Meister dial off of C24 and subtracted 10% since it hasn’t sold. I then subtracted another 7% that the seller would eat to sell on that platform. Than took off a little more due to the less desirable gold cap over steel configuration. Than threw in shipping because I love you guys and you decide to keep me around 😀.
