    Good evening everyone,

I have been offered this Omega Seamaster 300 - I am a Rolex guy and not really familiar with the Seamasters at all.

Yes this is another one of the father's watch stories but I am led to believe his story is correct.

These were the best photos I could take as the seller would not let me in his house for some reason(?).

I would like to know if the watch is genuine and if it is worth anything significant. If all goes well then I might be able to fund the Speedmaster I am after.

Hi. You'll get more responses if you upload the pictures rather than simply posting a link.

What has your research told you so far?

based on the potato camera pics it looks correct so far but

    - the bezel is really not nice
    - bracelet ist modern replacement
    - crystal needs to be replaced
    - dial is so so, not everbody like the dirty lume
    - caseback seems to be heavy worn which matches the overall appearance

    Hi David,

Sorry I have updated my post to include some photos from my link.

From what I have read so far, this seems to be a Seamaster reference 165.024 (no date model) from the 60s. There seems to be quite a lot of them with refinished and/or relumed dials as well as franken watches. so this is my main concern. There also seems to be a batch of Watchco Seamasters made from NOS parts originating from my country (Australia!).

My little research tells me the watch is legitimate due to:
    - The 6 and 9 are open (they are closed on the fakes).
    - The sword hands appear to be correct albeit slightly thinner than other examples I have seen online
    - It appears to have a C bezel.
    - The caseback has a flat A on the word Waterproof
    - Bracelet is not correct to the watch

That's all I have researched so far - I will continue doing so.

    Thanks again.

Thank you for your input. I apologise for the grainy photos; I met the seller in the middle of the night and had to take photos on top of his bin.

It would probably clean up ok, too bad about the 50 and 20 markers on the bezel though.

Like watchzilla said, the dial looks a little dirty, but it probably isn't helped by the photos. It is a worn example, and unless you can get it cheap, it may not turn a profit. You may want to wait for some more experienced opinions.

I think you did ok with the photos, in the night on top of a BIN! :)

    Hello fellow Aussie!

How much do you think it is worth Ed? I would not be paying more than $5k AUD.

I think with a simple deep clean and new crystal it might shape up well.

I like it. Will it ever be a great example? Well no, but it’s largely original, honest and in barn find condition.

5k AUD equates to around 2800 GBP, which is fine if you’re buying to keep. If you’re looking to make a profit you need to be aware that even cleaned up it will only ever be an average example. Does it run?

Thanks David. I have done some research and I will make a fair offer to the seller - however it won't be $5k.

Yes the watch does run but unsure of accuracy.

OP's example appears to have been used as intended and if the movement is not damaged, a fine 300 needing a bit of TLC.

Thanks everyone for their input. I purchased the watch early this morning and it is now in my watch maker's queue for a general clean, new crystal and service. The seller only wanted $500 but I offered him much much more than that so it was a fair deal for both of us. In the end he was happy and I was happy.

Hopefully I can post before and after pictures in the near future.

Nice. It looks much, much better in your new photo so perhaps the shadow was making the lume look worse than it actually is in your initial set.
