Thank you for starting this great post, Ashley. It helped me decide on a getting a Watchco re-build SM300 when one became available the other day.

I do have a question though. Will the case back of the SM300 without the date sport a 166.0324 case back. My understanding was that 1 = gents 6= Auto wind centred seconds and 6 = Water Resistant Date. My question is can the non date have a 165.0324 case back?

    Cheers

    Hi John,

My Watchco SM300 No Date, personally collected from Marcus himself, is a 166.0324.

Thanks, Jim. Yes that seems right and I haven't seen any that vary. Mine is definitely Watchco also. A few mates who have the 300 no dates also have 166.0324 case back reference. I wonder what the 055 ST is - probably service part...?

    Hello mate,
Would you consider a trade? I have a Mark II Omega Ploprof currently undergoing service. Please email me if you're keen so I can send photos.
Best Regards, Vince (Auckland, just across the ditch)

I think you're posting in the wrong thread, Vince.

Interesting. My no date has 165.0024 which I believe to correct. I thought the 166.0324 was specific to the date watches and is wrong for the no date.

Okay, paraphrased from something I received on the subject:
From 1974 as the stock of the cases referenced ST 166.024 (date) had ran out, the cal. 565 with date was equiped with with the case ref ST 165.024 (no date) with no change in the ref. number. The problem was corrected in 1999 when a replacement case back engraved 055 ST 166.0324 was provided. Now that's cleared that up...:whistling:

Is it the same case as the speedmaster pro? What about the hazel? I have got a seamaster 300, put in some other branded case, bought it second hand, looking for a 166.024 or 166.0324 or a 165.024. If it fits, I can buy a speedy and change it out,

    Great review.

So is this watch a WatchCo example?

Great review. I wish I had bought all the parts from watchco 10 years ago... compared to today's cost to build such a watch that was a bargain those days.

I don’t believe so. Unless exposed to the extremes.
