Wondering if anyone joined the auction by Fellows just now. The following vintage Seamaster 300 sold for £8,100 excl. buyer's premium.
I watched the auction on-line, but did not bid. The pre sale estimate on this one (lot 167) was £3600 - £4600, Lot 177 (another Big Triangle) but with date, also had an estimate of £3600 - £4600, and that hammered at £4300.
Was watching it at 4:30AM here. That’s about about $13850 US with buyers premium. Must’ve been a collector because I’m not sure there’s room there for a dealer to make any profit. That said, the combination of elements on this watch was very nice, although I suspect all 3 hands may have been relumed. Still very beautiful.
Why is Lot 177 (another Big Triangle) goes for lower hammered price? is it because some parts are replaced?
quite a huge price gap for both with date and without date even though the estimate values are the same. thanks for sharing, just starting to learn about the big triangle and trying to collect one.
I sold a similar big triangle version but with baton hands 2 weeks ago at a UK auction for £6500 so £8100 seems a good price. Did this one have the box and paperwork?
Big Triangle shouldnt have baton hands. Maybe that’s why it went for less? How are we to know the condition of your watch without pictures?
All discussed here https://omegaforums.net/threads/seamaster-300-big-triangle-valuation-and-cosmetic-work-needed.70790/ I'm no expert but after some debate it appears the big triangle version with baton hands can be genuine.
Setting the issue of the hands aside, in the current market for these BT watches your watch could’ve done better with a different auction house on a different day.
I agree the auction house plays an important roles but of course different auction houses charge different commission on the seller and the buyer.
Fair point - but how can you choose the optimum auction house and the optimum day? I was content with the price given the watch condition. The Rolex Explorer sold after mine was valued at £5000 and sold for £31500!
My remark came from you continuing to talk price by comparing your watch to the other auction. You got what you got on that given day. If you’re content let’s just put this to rest.
I bid on it but wasn't able to view it in person. That picture makes the lume look decently aged, but almost all the other pictures I saw of the watch showed the lume to be more white. I did bid over the auction estimate as I thought it was low. I would be curious to see more pictures if anyone else here snagged it. Here is another picture of same watch.
Looks like a nice piece to me and full priced. It would great if the owner was to come on here and show us the details.
