Rare in what way? It looks to be a clean and tidy Superluminova 2531.80 at a fair price.

First there was a reference that I indicated, then such a watch began to be released with a reference that you wrote. This is the first watch with a rare reference .

No. The number inside the caseback is the case number. All Omegas have one. The other number I quoted, 2531.80.00 is called the PIC and refers the the specific variant, dial, bracelet etc, this is never seen inside the case but is printed usually on the card. There were I think 3 or 4 case numbers used on the Bond SMP Auto, starting with 166.1603 (the non chronometer) and also 168.1603 (chronometer rated), yours, 168.1623 is a later version as can also be inferred by the superluminova dial. There is nothing rare about this watch, every Bond SMP Auto from around 1998 to 2008 will have that case number in the back. I do think it is a good deal but I dislike it intensely when sellers (particulary on ebay etc) use the word rare incorrectly. Incidentally it was the quartz version that was first seen in a Bond film, the auto came later.

Nice watch and fairly priced but is it rare? No.

I agree completely. I probably should not go there really but I have the same issue with the common use of the word "unpolished". I do agree that the watch advertised looks like a nice watch and at a fair price. A good catch waiting for someone!

I previously thought that the reference on the back cover is the model of the watch and not just the case number. Let's lower the price to 1850

The 2531800 had a few cases as I've mentioned in the past. The first one was 168.1503, then 168.1603, and then the 168.1623.

Cheers, Al

Quite so, I was a bit sloppy with my accuracy but my main point stands, this is later variant, now being offered cheaply IMO.
