Hey there,

what are your thoughts about this one? Any red flags except the new hands?

Unfortunately i can’t read the serial but the movement 552 should be right. The rest looks also good in my opinion...

- flat “A”
- Open 6 and 9
- Good lume
- no stubbies

Hm, whats the matter? Have I written anything wrong? It is to difficult to spot if it’s a fake or origin model? 😕

Everybody is too busy talking about wankers. Sorry.

😁

Also, members are often very generous with their time and energy, but asking them to analyze a watch that's already sold is a bit much.

I don’t get the point. Whatever. Thanks for... nothing.

Moldy lume at 3. Some bubbles in lume on a couple other hour markers. Replaced parts in movement. Guessing it had a moisture issue at some point that led to some work.

F**k the "Thanks for... nothing.", please. No one owes anyone else on the forum anything. It's the weekend, and a holiday one at that here in the US.

OK sorry. I am just disappointed because I was able to buy the watch for a very good price and in the end I only hesitated because I wasn't sure whether it was real. And now someone else has bought it. whatever. Thanks for the answers.

These 300's are very hard to judge. Especially when the pictures are inadequate and of mediocre quality. And there are a handfull of members who really know these 300's. So if you want their help I would advise you to give a bit more introduction, context and pictures. Otherwise the really knowledgeable members stay away. Alternative is you start pm-ing some members. They are always willing to help. When I bought my 165.024 they helped very generous. Hope this helps for next time. Good luck! And lately I see a lot of 300 for sale so you should find another!

So what was the good price? $5k USD? $7k? I haven't seen a big triangle sell for a while, yet a couple small triangle versions have been listed lately with prices far in excess of what big triangles were going for last year.

And I'm with Shabbaz -- I found the photos lacking a bit in quality and completeness. The water damage on the dial and what appear to be replaced parts in the movement were a flag to me, so better/ higher resolution photos would have been helpful.

Hey, yes, I agree with you. The photos weren't the best. The price would have been 3400 USD, so in my opinion (if it had been clarified whether it was fake or real) a no-brainer. Unfortunately, it's too late now. I hope that a beautiful model will be offered again soon.

I confess to having little or no interest in this particular model but I’m shocked at the prices quoted.

Presumably, if you come across one of these with a shot movement you could spend £400 on a 552 Genève and swap it in?

Another will come along- just be patient. I'm still waiting for another $400 5508 Submariner on original bracelet like the one I passed on in an antique store in 2001....but I'm sure I'll find another one .🤦

$3k+ is a lot of money, no need to beat yourself up, there are a number of factors that keep one from just jumping on an expensive watch (of which we know there are fakes) when we don't really know the territory. Now that this has become a bug in your brain, you can educate yourself on all the finer details of he SM300 so if you do happen across another, you can pounce.
This place is a great resource, but as you've seen, it can take some time to get feedback, particularly on a weekend- and sometimes those deals don't wait, so you need to be the field expert.

True. But sometimes you can make a 3k mistake. 😁

Exactly. There's a fine line between brave and foolhardy. If you spend several months educating yourself on the subtleties of a desirable reference, then you're in a position to act quickly.
