If you have an aversion to the color yellow, you might wanna avoid this thread. Don’t say I haven’t warned you! But if you like it colorful, if you find parrots cooler than mice, if you’re the kind of person who has no appreciation for the >90% of car buyers globally who spec their new pride and joy in either white, silver or black, if you feel like channeling your inner Elton John - then I might just have a watch for you. Some of you might recognize it, as it was offered by OFs very own @kyle L here a while ago. This is the original ad: https://omegaforums.net/threads/vintage-1950s-omega-seamaster-2846-cal-501.127137/ Also advertised in @STANDY s „Better than crap on EBay“-Thread: https://omegaforums.net/threads/sta...bay-mainly-for-new-to-vintage-watches.127142/ I‘ve bought it, had it shipped to the EU, sourced the correct, non-lumed hands and had it fully serviced by my watchmaker, as the power reserve suggested that it needed some love. The dial is absolutely spectacular and I have no idea how it turned out this way. Someone asked me if it might have been residue from smoke - possibly, but I’d expect nicotine to leave a less shiny color. Anyway, it doesn’t smell whatsoever, but the „how“ will likely remain its secret. The thing for me is that I still need to thin out a little and I’ve acquired way too many Omegas recently anyway - against my initial expectation, I’ll now pass this one on. The Watch Omega Seamaster Reference: 2846 Movement: cal. 501 automatic Serial: 15646609 Year: 1957 Case: 34.5mm stainless steel “fat lugs” Dial: a deep yellow, with a brighter spot towards the middle which hints to the factory white. No lume, SS furniture, applied omega logo. Strap: Yellow. Veeeery yellow croco-print leather. Note that I also have a correct BoR for it, which looks great. Oh, and if you’re boring you can also have a black strap. But I mean, come on! Condition Dial & Hands: Original dial, heavily patinated. The patina is relatively even on the whole dial, with a lighter spot around the middle. All the writing is fully intact, see close-ups down below. Hands also show degradation, especially the second hand - I find the look of the brownish second hand over the yellow disk pretty cool, though. Indices are well intact, no lume anywhere. Kyle pointed out some minor blemishes on the dial that are only visible in very harsh light, but I couldn’t reproduce that. Please refer to the original ad to see what I mean. Case: Original 34,5mm stainless steel case in ok shape with some marks all around, but it looks consistent. Note that, as also stated in the original ad, there’s some pitting around the case back and it looks like it might have been worn on a NATO for a while. Seamaster and waterproof writing on the back are still visible. Crown: Original flat foot Omega crown which is correct for the ref. Omega-logo on the crown clearly visible. Crystal: Original crystal, some nicks around the edges. Movement: Original cal. 501 automatic, fully serviced last month, the receipt of which will of course be delivered with the watch. Happy to provide a picture of it up front, please do ask. Accordingly, it works great, keeps good time, power reserve is as it should be, winds and sets easily. Strap/Bracelet: Yellow leather, brand new (I’ve only put it on once for the picture), alternatively a boring and not at all funky black leather strap or an Omega beads of rice bracelet, the extra cost for the latter would have to be discussed. Seller Reviews Plenty reviews available here, but either my username is too short to use the search function for that or I’m not handling the forum software eloquently enough, which is entirely possible. Please do ask. Payment, Shipping & Returns Payment is accepted via PayPal F&F, bank transfer, Transferwise or cash in person - PayPal G&S for established members only please. I’d usually write that a coffee would be included in a personal transaction, but for this thing, a Tequila Sunrise might be the more suitable drink? I'm asking 584€ (Which is exactly what I paid for the watch, customs, the new hands and the service. The costs for the yellow strap are on me - I can’t see it on any other watch anyway ) The watch is located in Germany. Tracked and insured shipping is usually 6€ nationally 16€ within the EU/GB/Switzerland ~50€ to the rest of the world Happy to ship wherever, get in touch and I'm sure we can figure something out. No returns please unless I misrepresented the watch in any way. If there are any questions, please do reach out. And, as always, thanks @OF for the space! Here are some pictures - feel free to ask for more.
Considering how 50s Seamasters have climbed in prices the last few years this was a very, very fair price. Very, very fair.
Well, thanks to you, among others, I've been on the receiving end of fair pricing in this community. Don't see a reason to do it any differently. Also, thanks to everybody for the kind comments and to all those who sent a PM despite the watch being OHPF, I'll make sure to get back to you soon anyway!
Arghh I can't sleep, can't work anymore : this place is Hell Congrats to the buyer and Thanks @MtV to put those beauties here ! One day, I'll be awake and there when it happens
Damn, what a cool color - I would have been sorely tempted if I had seen it on time. Congrats to buyer and seller, and dibs whoever bought it!
