This thread looks at the Omega Seamaster 2254.50 as a daily-wear tool diver, including wearability, bracelet and ownership appeal versus newer Seamaster models. If you are considering a 2254.50 as a one-watch option, start here.

Is the 2254 considered a tool diver? Looking for a less dressy diver than the new SMP 300…also really do not like SMP bracelet and skeleton hands or how blingy it is. Would like to see pics of 2254.50 and thoughts on buying one 10+ years used as my sole do it all watch?

Yes, it is a toolwatch, a beautiful...beautiful toolwatch. Here it is on my most toolie strap from a Citizen diver.

They are a very cool reference with a reasonably short lived production run available at a reasonable price. I have a soft spot for these and like the big triangle and visibility of the dial in general. You cannot go wrong with one of these!!!!

The hands and the lume markers make it very useable in harsch conditions.....toolwatch.

A 100% tool watch purpose built for professional diver's. It also just happens to look great. Just goes to show how great Omega is. A tool watch that's marvelous to look at.

I love my 2254, it is one of my favourite watches 👍
I wear it sweeming, hikeing, flying, sleeping, etc.

I am sure it is not a big deal but there even was a limited run of this watch for the SAS special forces unit of the British Army 😉

212.30.41.10.01.001 is a limited edition of 300 pieces created for the SAS special forces unit of the British Army. It is based on the 2254.50.00, but features a the SAS insignia and Special Forces Communicator on the case back.

I love mine. Put the six-position adjustable clasp on it. It is also my "official" get it wet watch. Bought it used, replaced the bezel and it's a joy to wear. It's also flat! Not thick at all.

I'm actually glad you didn't buy the blue 2254.50 that you saw at the antiques fair.

I love mine, I want to pick up a 36mm too
I had this one, sold it long ago. Concerning readability: Toolwatch. Considering the bad grip of the bezel: Flimsy dresswatch. However I agree that it is a great classic.

I'm actually glad you didn't buy the blue 2254.50 that you saw at the antiques fair.

Fair enough. I only had a quick peek, it looked nice to me but I’m no expert and would certainly do more research to check model number, provenance, etc. before making that kind of decision - I didn’t even check the price. The way things seem to be at the moment I think I’d only buy from OF 😉

I think the message here is that there is no blue 2254 so the implication is that you had a lucky escape!

There is the electric blue dial 2255.80 (with a polished steel bezel), perhaps you mean that? Or of course the original 2531.80 Bond watch and several other blue dial SMP variants in gold, titanium etc, but there is no blue 2254.

For anyone who finds the 2254 a little too tooly, the 2230.50 non-AC offers a similar look but smartened up a little. Many will prefer the faux-mil aesthetic but personally I prefer the non-AC since it combines some of the 2201.50 PO features and a very fancy bezel.

....Too tooly.... I think Nile Rodgers once asked David Bowie if he had made a song 'too funky' - David replied no darling..is there such a thing?

300m professional dive watch / with helium release. Best legability of any watch I have (IMHO) which has amazing asthetics combined with robust top class engineering performance. A very hard combination to achieve.

I thought that might annoy some. I meant it simply on the basis that the sword hands versions were inspired by the mil issued Omega dive watches of the 1960s such as the big triangle 165.024. The SMP was never issued anywhere AFAIK. I love the SMP and have owned many so please don’t take it as an baseless slur. I’d take a 2254 over a Watchco every time.

I think the black variant trumps the blue one though, more utilitarian imo
