Hi Guys, I’m brand new on here and first of all just wanted to say thank you to everyone on here for making this such an amazing source of data/knowledge!! I’ve managed to go from knowing nothing at all about Omega watches to knowing as much as I can find about my own watch. There are some questions that’s I can’t seem to answer by searching however and thought I’d ask for your help. I have a watch that I bought from an ex colleague of mine, he was selling up to move abroad, I paid £100 for it, I figured that it worked, was an automatic and I loved how it looked so figured it was worth the cash. I’ve since got bitten by the bug and tried to find out as much as possible. From my limited knowledge here is what I know: Movement is cal 1020 (all looks good) Back number is 166.0213.1/366.0845.1 Crystal has tiny omega stamp Case has been modified to accept a strap :0( Watch holds time well As the case has been butchered it got me wondering what else had been altered, although most other things seem legit. It has had some work as the date and time wheel shades are different with one being brighter than the other. Is there anything else that jumps out to your trained eyes?? There is what looks like a black (plastic I think) spacer between the dial and the movement which seems a little out of character, is this original? See pic below. If all looks ok and worth the extra cash outlay I would like to eventually source an unmodified case and possibly bracelet for this watch (although I do prefer leather straps). I’m monitoring eBay for watches that have maybe stopped working and there are a few case only examples but I’m struggling with the bracelet, if you guys know of anywhere better to search that would be great. See photos below, I tried to get in as close as possible but my phone/photography skills are limited!! Thanks in advance Mark
That’s great thanks Rochete, most of the details look correct in terms of the visuals and the movement numbers etc. The photo clearly shows a narrower strap, so definitely needs a replacement watch body.
Spending money on replacement parts to make it look like a new watch will be a folly, if you go down this road you will also have to replace the hardest to find item, the dial. The one in your photographs has been re-finished or cleaned at some stage, which is not surprising given the other changes. Just get it serviced and enjoy it as a good old Omega beater.
Thanks JimInOz, I figured as much. I like that it has a strap rather than a bracelet so I’d probably not wear it if back to stock spec and what’s the point in that! Good info re the dial, I thought it was odd as if not seen any in this hue, however I love it as it is. Great advice, I’ll do some research for good service outfits. Thank you!
