I'm looking to assemble a vintage Omega Seamaster as a way to build up my watch-handling skills. I know that the SMs are notorious for the number of fakes out there and I was hoping to get a bit of input from the community regarding the authenticity of this ref 135.0027 set. Only the bezel is stated as aftermarket; however, the dial and case back look unexpected clean and the lume on the minute hand has a border that I don't see on the originals. The glass appears to have an Omega logo. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for the rapid response, Muddlerminnow. Definitely some funny business here. Will re-post in the Fakes forum.

100% fake, these are sold on Etsy as new old stock, but are far from that.

The above thread is top notch it’s a true education on everything 120.

I would question the case back, it is either a repo or a redo. The crown appears to be incorrect as well.

From the eBay link, the movement seems to be correct, however the lume put is not original and the dial seem suspect or just very poor.

The case seem ok, there are notches at the 3 and 9.

I would pass. There are better examples out there.

    Hi guys,

I have a problem with correctly judging whether or not this Seamaster 120 (135.027) is a complete fake, partly franken ... or even maybe original (which I doubt)
I have read all the threads here regarding the signs that show if it's a fake or not - but still I find it hard to compare pictures with the real watch. So my example puzzles me because on it has the notches on 3 and 9, Omega logo engraved in the crystal and also movement seems correct. That's what I would see as original. Not clear to me is the dial tho hands seem to be ok, but indices seem a bit too yellow. Font on dial I can't really say. The bezel is like new - given the age that's just not possible - tho it's not really glossy, which I've read is a clear sign of a fake bezel. (Question: what material would a original bezel be of?) What about the bezel font? Is the 4 correct? Seahorse logo on the back seems defintively not right to me, because the upside down Y is missing. Overall state of case back like new - also very strange to me.

Would be really thankful for your opinion! Thank you!!!

Everything except the movement (which are plentiful and easy to source and graft into these) is newly made counterfeit.

Search seamaster 120 on Etsy, you will see the kit used to construct this watch.

Also the Seamaster writing is grey Instead of white which is another tell that it is a fake.

The bezel is a reproduction of the original, the fake glossy ones seem raised and are clearly much different.

Hi, can you guys help me tell if this watch is genuine or not? I'm having a hard time spotting the details and not to experienced in this. 176906_a09d0ad91f6b89f1dfc91fec80d5733b.jpg 176907_ff32f0970c0cb81bfbed67b23df4761f.jpg 176913_c4ce9a61f2d0c53db2dca1ff8fb9ae4a.jpg 178152_7934c67f5f3b2ea86a35c0643259768c.jpeg 178153_0b576799d0cbc738601b3aacb8d3c1ff.jpeg

Looks good to me based on your pics, bezel looks good, hands are correct, case is correct, hesalite is signed, case back looks right, dial looks good.

It’s the manual wind version, no date, I would ask for a shot of the movement before doing anything.

    Concerns:
I would also ask for more pics in natural light. You want to make sure the case is not a high polish all around, the top of the lugs should be brushed.

Lume pit appears to be redone, maybe more pics will shed some light on that.

2nd to last pic, Omega logo looks like it may have been removed.

Ask for more pics and ask plenty of questions. Knowing the history of the watch and who’s selling it can add to your confidence during the purchase.

From what I can se after reading through the "my early seamaster 120"-thread I think it looks very good. The 3 and 9 parts of the case looks right, the omega logo on the "glass"is there, probably polished a bit, and after looking at the pearl again @JwRosenthal that made me aware of, it is probably not the original one. The numbers and writing looks good to me, but after reading some threads on fake ones I have a hard time spotting the difference. As far as i can tell the bracelet is original, even though not my favourite one.

I think you did pretty well. The fake dials tend to have a different texture and grey text. The originals ones are bright white text. Plus the lume on that dial is appropriately spongy - the fake ones tend to look too perfect. And the bracelet is not original, don't factor that into the value.

thank you @Watchout312 you have an eye for details. And yes the Omega logo looks like it's been removed/replaced. I'm asking for a shot of the movement to help verify that. Also some more shots of the lugs. Thank you for your help.

@Watchout312 here is a pic of the movement. Not the best quality, but the one he had. Screenshot 2019-10-02 at 11.16.45.png
