I have a couple of questions regarding this reference:

1. How many dial variations does this reference have? So far I have found two:
a. Variation a: 28877515-pwbqwws9itbkaithaoql4yvh-ExtraLarge.jpg

b. Variation b: 27151607-qzk6ftjld52n0gddcz85dgzu-ExtraLarge.jpg

2. Would you recommend the caliber 1001 for a first time vintage watch buyer? Or should I just stick to the more popular/reliable(?) 5xx, 6xx, 7xx movements?

I'm interested in learning more about this reference, so feel free to share more insight about it. Thanks!

Regarding the first question i do not know the answer but for the second question i do not think a caliber may not be "recommended" for a first time vintage buyer. If you like it buy it 😀

1001 is the one that is troublesome, earlier like 551 or later like 1011 are both better

I can't answer your dial question but for more info on this reference the ‘Omega Enthusiast’ has a video review of the 168.033 (his personal watch) where he mentions the bad rap the caliber 1001 gets, but says that if given a good service it can run more accurately than most movements, he also makes a good point about the 19mm lug width which slightly limits your selection in straps. Review starts at 5min 40sec
