my collection of watches started w/electro/mech's. After researching the whole start of the quartz history I was staring at the stark differences that is the Quartz. I have a bolova acc. beta21 that came early in my "pile o' watches".I bought all on ebay back when you could look at every watch listed and would run out in the early hrs. When the beta 21's came out, Omega made a decision that forever changed how a watch dial was looked at.There were two different types of beta's,an A and of course,a B.The A was based on accutron's Accuquartz and the other eliminated the tuning fork. The difference? It was blatant. The quartz mvmt, the mega quartz, just sat there going "clunk", "clunk" ad finitum. The other was smooth as buttermilk, mesmorizing the person's eyes. The Megaquartz,an extremely well made watch was chosen;. the almighty buck was the answer. THey didn't have to pay bulova any royalties. THe tuning fork was used as a slave to advance the train. It's smoother than any other mvmt to date. The quartz kept it accurate. The 9160 was the answer for for all of the tuning fork models, but bulova got paid for each and ever one sold. That's where the megasonic of omega comes to light; But thats another story. So Omega dodges a bullet but we got the "clunk","clunk" with the quartz watch.Very small thing? Not to my eyes, holding them next to each other.
