Several topics have been started all stating that 2019 will be an important year for our favourite brand, named after the 24th and last letter of the Greek alphabet... Omega must be very busy but what can they be up to right now ? A summary of speculations without guestimating which anniversary is considered the most important . 1894-2019 = 125 years for the name Omega 1969-2019 = 50 years Apollo 11 1969-2019 = 50 years Alaska Project 1969-2019 = 50 years Flightmaster 1999-2019 = 20 years split second chronometer Speedmaster 2009-2019 = 10 years titanium/ceramic Speedmaster 1984-2019 = 35 years Omega museum 1974-2019 = 45 years Coaxial escapement by the late George Daniels . And what about those among us dreaming of the (missed occasion?) anniversaries of the Ultraman (50 yrs) , Alaska III radial dial (40 yrs) and the X33 (20 yrs) ? Lots of anniversaries, desires, speculations, dreams,...
I would be super interested at seeing what a modern Flightmaster *might* look like. *rushes out to look at pre owned Flightmasters.
No worries here. There won’t be any modern Flightmaster from Omega... They sold the name to Seiko in the late seventies
Well, there's an opportunity for the marketing team to reach out to a younger generation by talking their language... ...introducing the new 'FlyBossinnit'
Looking at their instagram posts, that exactly what they are doing! Wouldn't it be great to order your custom Speedmaster online (e.g. choosing from a range of bezels... Telemeter, 60 minutes, new DON, etc...)
I never put too much thought to the Flightmasters but now that it has been mentioned I believe they may have something due to that "Flightmaster Only" book being released.
I heard it’s going to be large enough to have a full scale casting of the footprint from Kubricks Studio.
I hope they don’t do a FM reissue, the MKII was / is in large a huge disappointment. Also, just look across the aisle at all the reissues from Heuer lately, totally diluted the brand.
To be honest Apollo 11 is the only real one I see Omega doing anything special for. I would be shocked if they didn't go all out on that though. They've been leaning on the Speedmaster / space program extremely hard in recent years.
One thing is for sure Omega will launch 40 new watches that year celebrating all those anniversaries.
As I wrote before... A quick overview of the numbers produced past "special" anniversary Apollo 11 editions: 20 years A11 = 2000 numbered + 4000 unnumbered... classic look Speedmasters 25 years A11 = 2500 numbered + 999 for Italian market ... classic look Speedmasters ( + 500 White Gold & 50 Skeleton pieces ) 30 years A11 = 9999 unnumbered special logo caseback classic look Speedmasters 35 years A11 = 3500 Silvery white dial special logo caseback 40 years A11 = 8000 black dial with Apollo 11 logo & special logo caseback, among which 69 Platinum versions 45 years A11 = 1969 brushed Titanium browwnish dial Speedmasters ... So every A11 anniversary there were large numbers produced (between 2000 and 9999 time pieces) I guess the 50 years A11 will be a mix... betting on the numbers 69, 1969 and maybe even 5000 ?
So nothing to expect about the Flightmaster and these, if anything, should still be done this year: 50 years Ultraman 40 years Alaska III 20 years X-33
