...make a Chronograph version of the Seamaster 300 Master Coaxial!
I was just perusing the SMP 300 MC listings at eBay just now and I almost choked when I saw this JLC listing thinking for a 1/2 second that it was an Omega:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Jaeger-LeCo...036286?hash=item2a6189a1fe:g:4XMAAOSw2x1XKRXTPurchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network
For a second I thought it was a Chronograph version of this brilliantly, near perfect reissue triumph by Omega...that would have ruined it for me and maybe even hurt my love for the brand.
I love Omega, but I do think they are releasing way too many watches and way too many variations. Why does every model have to have a chronograph version?? Yes, the Speedmaster is an undeniable icon, but must we have a Seamaster chrono, a Railmaster chrono etc,.etc...leave the chrono for the Speedy ONLY!

Anyway, thank goodness it was not what I thought it was...phew!

Hah I do agree that the Railmaster chrono was a bit much - but let's not forget that there were Seamaster chronographs in the 1960s that were quite beautiful (if not actually divers)!

However, I do own the model in question, and it's really one of my favorites!

Because of its case size / shape, it wears much more like a straight-lug 1960s Speedmaster or Autavia. While I'm not calling for Omega to release a chrono version of the 300MC (and certainly hope they don't) I'm loving the hell out of the Deep Sea Chronograph :D

I've thought a bit about the utility of having a chronograph on a dive watch and came to the conclusion that it would be nice to be able to use the rotating bezel to track bottom time and the chronograph to track surface time, separately. Then, you wouldn't have to worry about moving the bezel to track surface time before having a chance to log the bottom time.

Or, you could just use your electronic dive computer :)

No offense intended, of course....it's a great watch and looks very much at home on your wrist, but as far as Omega's...there's a time and place for everything....

I love these forums for the exposure I get to awesome watches. I hate these forums for the exposure I get to awesome watches. If I was not in the continuum of buying thru restoring my latest tri-compax, I'd be all over this auction as a JLC fan and as a chrono junkie. Argghhh. A new obsession.

Omega already makes a chronograph version of the Seamaster 300 - it's called the Speedmaster Coaxial Chronometer:

I've been after this one ever since it was shown at Baselworld a few years ago. It hasn't disappointed at all, in fact it's a ton more fun on the wrist than I even expected it would be.

If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up! :D

Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop to look around once in a while you could miss it.

Your theory is invalid ;) as the dive bezel runs off of the minute hand you couldn't wait to record. Well you could reset the down time to the 12 hour when you hit the surface...

As a diver who owns a chrono diver and admittedly not dove with it there is no real use for a chrono in a diver. On the other hand some just look good. I love the 3313 PO and I think the 45.5 PO's look better with the chrono as that dial is huge and can look a bit empty without it. The tech needed to do a chrono diver is also pretty cool and not a very common complication on highly water resistant watches.

But let's be honest most complications on dive watches make little to no sense. Yes I'm looking at Helium release valves. Or my personal favorite oddball the PO GMT announced at Basel. So you have a HE release valve on a non diving bezel? Or better yet a dive bezel on a deep sat watch since most deep sat dives are longer then 1 hour.

Which leads us back full circle to a chrono on a deep sat watch. Hey wait!! Now a chrono on a dive watch makes sense!!

I was just reacting to abrod520's original Ferris Bueller quote.
