    Hi

I've been looking at this watch and wonder if its kosher. The condition is very good, almost to good. What would a realistic price be?

    thanks in advance

Looks ok to me, service replacment crown, which means it's had some tlc. Some of these had the more desirable black onyx markers but I do like this type, with clean dial. Case looks quite sharp too.

Serial number puts it at 1966 which is too late for onyx. It's only black paint on the surface of the markers.

Hoi was collecting detailed information, but I recall 1964. He'll be along if we bring his attention to this thread with a hoipolloi alert.

It won't help for this watch since the indices are all gold, but we'll see what he has to say.

folks, not sure I agree about the date for onyx markers. I have a 18ct dog leg connie (168.005/6) from 1966, 24.5 mill serial, that definitely has inlaid onyx bars on the markers

    cheers, paul

    Helli.

Omega changed black onyx inserts to black paint starting with movements serial # 24 mil and most of them are 561's.

Some sellers (and collectors) prefer 564, they swap a 564 from a C case and voilà, you have a nice piepan connie black onyx inserts and a 564.

Any 168005 with black onyx inserts powered by a 564 ,serial # higher than 24 mil must be one of them.

    Best

So if I understand it correct the watch is pretty original besides the crown. How about the value? The seller wants around $1500 is that acceptable?

    thanks for your insight info.

and this is a 564, serial # 24 mil with black paint

with these markers, right at the ends of the markers, they paint some more down and it looks like real onyx markers, or they just buy an old, ugly, repainted dial and swap the markers.

No, $1500 is waaaaaaay too much. The crown is not original, the sweep second hand is not, either.

I won't buy it, but if I would ? $900 is the max but he won't sell it at that price

Just want to point out that the sweep second hand is not original to this watch, hand is too long for a pie pan dial.

Have to strongly disagree, if only with the timing. I have a 168.005 with Onyx and it is 2425xxxx. It is a one owner presentation watch from Alcoa. It was not swapped.

    Still good. Steve.

That's why I collect the 168005 powered by a 564 in 24 mil range with black onyx inserts.

To me, they are the last Princes of Omega Golden Age

the highest one in my collection is 24.3XXXXX, I have also seen ones at 24.6 but did not have chance to hold it in my hands with a loup.

To be safe, buy the ones with 561 only ;)

Folks, I have 2 pie pans with onyx inserts :

cal 561, 168.005/6, 24507xxx serial, dog leg lugs

    cal 561, 168.004, 24, 457,xxx serial, hidden crown model

both from 1966, and both serial numbers are part of the consecutive 100,000 movements that passed COSC

    cheers, paul
