Omega Pie Pan Constellation advice

$4.5k is a lot of cheddar for either. I’m guessing they still need a service. Any kind of guarantee? Personally I’d go for the collectability of the dog-leg at that price but I’d want to get a correct crown and if you can find one that would be expensive. I like the dome dial but it would be too steep for me. But if you love it and have the budget then *shrugs* If it was me and there wasn’t a fire that could only be put out by a new Connie, I would save my budget and enjoy the hunt a little longer 😁

N.B. You’ll (more safely) get more watch for your money in the private sales forum of this site.

4.5k is 1950s deluxe pie pan dial money. This thing wouldn't even come close to fetching half that in an auction.

I guess it's Christmas time and someone is looking for a holiday gift? As said, ask yourself if you really have to decide now, because with a bit of research you should be able to find a good example for at least $1k less.

Hey folks,

Thanks so much for your help

Please see the attachment for the rest of the pictures of the two nice ones' backs.
Yes, both are fully serviced.
And I've added a third one with a purple bracelet that I found for a little less money to get your precious opinion on all of that.

Fortunately, I have family in Europe who will receive the package, they’re all there.

Thank you so much.

Louis

Are you in a hurry for some reason? I think better examples than these pop up on the forum sales section regularly with much more reasonable prices.

I don't mean to be rude, but you do seem to have some trouble determining what is and isn't in good condition. In such cases, the old adage "buy the seller" is very helpful to keep in mind. Make sure you're buying from someone reputable with a track history of transparency in reporting condition.

Actually I’m struggling to find better in UK or Europe

Just to close the loop on the ones you've posted - the last one (on the hideous purple strap) has a very soft case, a replacement crown and is a redial.
The pics are not clear enough to understand what is going on with the dial, in some pics it looks like it has lumed indices and others solid gold indices.
In both cases the hands would be wrong. (black inserts in hands go with onyx inserts in the indices)

You say it is a little less - How much is the asking and is this from the same seller as the others?

Two of the several you have posted are nice watches - but honestly, not at the price asked.

Also, you don't seem to have pinned down what you actually want - all the watches you have shown have been very different (pie-pan and dome dial, dogleg, lyre lug, hidden crown) with the only common denominator being they are solid gold.
We are happy to help but it is a little bit worrying that you're willing to spend a pretty hefty wad without being able to recognise good from bad just yet - so a little more studying of specific references would help you a lot.

We really understand the desire to have a watch now but patience and learning is definitely the key to finding a good watch at a sensible price.
(and please never think about spending that kind of money without seeing all aspects of the watch - both inside and out.)

Perhaps check Alex's Ebay listings (he's in Mexico) as he often has nice solid gold watches and you might find an equally good watch but (even with import charges) potentially for significantly less money.

Good luck with the hunt!

That sounds about right. Good vintage watches at fair prices aren't just sitting around waiting to be purchased, like walking into a retail store. The ones that newbies find have generally been listed online for months, because something is wrong with them, they are overpriced, or both. You need to do your research, hunt patiently, and then pounce quickly.

Do decent watchmakers leave on the original yellow gasket when doing a full service? ...perhaps for the sake of originality? I would expect a "fully serviced" watch not to have a yellow gasket.

One more thing to consider is that cal. 561 is not a date quickset, so if you don't wear it regularly, be prepared to do a lot of crown turning. I like the quickset on cal. 564.

It’s not too bad.
Cal 561 has a semi- quickset date change.
Winding 12-9 and back again through 12.

No. Not unless there was an explicit request to leave a useless seal in the watch.

The one shown in the last post with photos with the black seal - that seal is long gone. What this would tell me is that the yellow seal wasn't left there for the sake of collectability, but because neither of these have likely not been serviced, or were serviced poorly.

Thanks @Dan S and @Peemacgee

What I'm actively looking for is an omega constellation pie pan in 18k gold.
I live in the United Kingdom but have family in Europe.
@Peemacgee, do you have this Alex's eBay link profile from Mexico? Are there any other ideas? On eBay or Chrono24, 4000 appears to be the price, but if you know where I can find this watch in great condition for less, please let me know.

Thanks very much for your help

Here is a link to a sale from Alex that @dsio referenced in the recommended thread. (Now sold)

Also check out the thread regularly as there have been a few decent constellations listed there recently.

Also, note that nobody’s saying you can buy another one right now. If you’re impatient, pay the 4k to some lucky dealer on C24. If you have the time and restraint to check the listings here and on eBay ever now and then, you’ll find one within a few weeks to a couple of months.

Got it thanks, 4K is too expensive.

Thank you very much and Merry Christmas @Peemacgee. I'll look into it, and if you hear of a nice constellation full gold for sale, please let me know.

thanks
