Hi everyone,

I'm new to the forum and I'm would need some help as I'm looking to buy an Omega Constellation but unfortunately I'm an absolute beginner regarding vintage Omega and I would need you precious help. The guy is asking £2900 for it and I'll be happy to do a service.
Do you think it's a worthwhile purchase?
Is the watch too polished?
In poor condition?
The crown is not the original, but I've seen some inexpensive Omega crowns on Ebay.

Pics are attached, please let me know

Thanks very much for your help

welcome @Louisrost

what @Zapatta said I'm afraid - this is not a good example.

This was once a 168.0014 i.e. deluxe constellation with a solid gold case and solid gold dial. (technically it still is of course)
The dial has been badly repainted, the case is not only heavily polished, its also had an expanding end-link bracelet on it at some point - hence the huge chunks out of the back of the lugs.
It's even missing its case gasket and has rotor rub.

For £2,900 you should be able to find a really good example of this particular reference in solid gold (this one is pretty much only worth its gold-weight - £1000?)

Thank you for taking the time to respond to me so quickly.
Last question, what about these two?

Thanks

They both look very nice.
The dog leg has some spotting to the pie-pan dial but the lugs look very good.
The 14393 dome dial looks to be a deluxe, the dial is nice and the lugs are pretty good too.

It's quite important to also see the case back (inside and out) and to know the asking price (also which country they are in because of import duties)

edit: the dogleg movement appears to be in the 'third milestone' run of 100,000 consecutive movts that achieved chronometer status - doesn't add value but does add interest to collectors

2nd edit - should have mentioned the replacement crown on the dogleg

What a fantastic feedback @Peemacgee. Really impressive, thanks so much.

Both 4500 euros.

Any recommendation if I have to choose one?

Thanks very much

I was thinking that the OP was learning, but maybe just got lucky with those other two.

€4,500 is really quite steep even for a nice 18k Constellation - I presume they are from a major bricks and mortar dealer?
and when you say you have to choose one of these....?

Given the condition of the others - do you have full pics?
front, back, sides, insides.

Are they within your tax block -i.e. no import duties
Have they been properly serviced by a competent watchmaker? (with proof) - this would be a must for me at that price
(because any additional cost would be just too much)

Which to choose (if you must) is up to you and your preferences.

I have the no-date version of the 14393 deluxe and it wears extremely well.
I also have a very sharp gold pie-pan dogleg and its really lovely. (if a little fussy IMHO)
It also depends on when/where you are going to wear the watch.

But if you must have a pie-pan, then a dome dial won't cut it and vice versa.

I would (with some patience) expect to find a nice 18k Connie for something nearer to €3,000.
A good pie-pan may run at €500 more.
But if you are buying from a dealer, they will want to make a living - so time is money

The pie-pan is undoubtedly more collectible if you're bothered about that and the case looks unusually sharp. (in a good way)
For your own peace of mind try and get all views of the watches to check them out fully - you don't want be hood-winked in any way at that price.

hope that helps

I agree about checking the watches carefully. The last watch appears to be mounted on the same type of stand as the previous two, so is presumably being sold in the same store. If the seller didn't mention the terrible re-dial, then they are either ignorant or sneaky, but either way, you can't trust them to guide you.

The 14393/4 (dome dial) would be the best buy out of all in my opinion. Look to be in great condition both dial and case.

Good luck.
