Hello everyone, i'm trying to find a good vintage omega watch to buy on ebay under £500 and I have found those two:

I wanted to know if they are original pieces and if you would recommend them. I also wanted to know whether omega movements from the 50s and 60s are recommended. Thank you in advance for your help.

First I would like to point out that I have no interest in purchasing either of the two watches that this post refers to.

I have joined this forum as I have a great affinity to Omega watches and have joined the forum to learn more about them, especially regards the history and maintenance side.

You have said that first watch was junk, could you please give more information so that so that I may learn something.

My guess is that the dial has been repainted (and quite a poor job at that) and I don't think those hands were on the watch when it left the factory. also not sure about the crown.
The hands on the second one also look odd to me, though I could be wrong

Very incorrect refinished dial, not worth the GBP 360.00 it sold for.

The Longines looks like a nice watch. Case and dial are sharp. Price is decent (for now). If only some idiot didn't gouge up the back trying to force it open. Only other issue is that there are no movement pictures at all. I would not go much higher that current bid.

The Omega looks original, but price is more than I would pay.

Note that I'm in the US and prices are generally cheaper here for almost anything.

Agreeing with gator, with the addendum that for the UK, both of these are priced ok.

You have a number of choices. Pay dealer prices (often double prices elsewhere, and distressingly no guarantee of a correct or decent watch); be patient and take a risk on an ebay watch, or keep an eye on forums like this one through an aggregator like watch recon. The forum route still requires patience and has risk attached, but if you are buying from a well known collector, you can benefit from their knowledge and experience. No easy option, I'm afraid.

Nice catch for 50 quid

Jaquet Droz is an under rated brand vintage wise and like most Swiss brands, their recent watches have moved into the stratosphere as far as pricing goes.
