Hey folks,

for sale is this funky fella in great condition:

The Watch

Omega Memomatic
Reference: 166.072
Movement: cal. 980 automatic alarm
Serial: 31335222
Year: 1970
Case: 41mm stainless steel
Dial: light gray and black, with orange accents / second hand
Price: 1600€ shipped

This was not just Omegas first automatic wrist alarm. To quote our very own @chunkythebulldog :

The Caliber 980 was quite a revolution in the mechanical alarm movements, for two reasons:
1- It was the first rotor self-wind system with only one barrel driving both the movement and the alarm – you only have one winder…
2- It was also the first alarm wristwatch where an alarm could be set to the minute by a dual central rotating alarm disc, as opposed to the A. Shild-based movements, or the Jaeger Memovox movements where you set the alarm time with just one hand. The latter yields much more inaccuracy for obvious reasons.

Condition

Dial:
Original, non-refinished, even under the magnifying glas I can't spot any blemished whatsoever. What you might see in the pictures is dust/minute scratches on the plexi. Same goes for the hands, the lume and the bright orange accents.

Case: Original 41mm stainless steel, with the brushing absolutely intact and clear, sharp edges to the polished chamfers. From the top, it's close to immaculate. Minute dots on the sides, with visible scratches inside the lugs from a bracelet. The caseback shows the usual smaller scratches from wearing and, unfortunately, some larger ones from failed opening attempts. Seamaster logo is sharp and clearly visible, though and when the watch is on the wrist, those imperfections luckily aren't visible.

Crown: Original Omega crown, great condition.

Crystal: Original, signed cyclops crystal (Omega logo etched at the center), in very good condition.

Movement: Original cal. 980 automatic. Very clean, winds, sets and runs fine. All functions are working perfectly, including the alarm, of course, service history is unknown, though. Serial dates the watch to 1970.

A working alarm is imperative for my morning routine. Can I really trust you with that?

Sure! Have a look:

I’m also happy to provide multiple positive feedback on another watch forum, as well as a verification through my eBay-account that has been standing for 19 years, with >1900 reviews, 100% positive. Please do ask.

Payment, Shipping & Returns

Payment is accepted via PayPal F&F, bank transfer, Transferwise or cash in person. A coffee would be included in a personal transaction. 😀

I'm asking

1600€ shipped (tracked and insured) within the EU.

Happy to ship wherever, though, get in touch and I'm sure we can figure something out.

No returns unless grossly misrepresented.

If there are any questions, please do reach out. And, as always, thanks @OF for the space! Now, let's see some pictures. Please note that I tried both harsh, artifical light and a warmer light source to depict the beautiful brushing/sharp edges of the Memomatic, but if you'd prefer any other picture I'm more than happy to take some more.
