Hey, hope everyone is keeping well.

I bought this 1991 Omega for my partners birthday from Chrono24 but I'm worried it's a fake.

If anyone could give me their thoughts that would be great. I paid around 1,000usd and planned on getting it restored.

Cheers, Tom

Reference numbers on the case back - OMEGA 566 0286 766 0886

Only brings up a site that lists sold auction items, but no price

Not a fake. From around 2000 or so, but not in the best of condition + putting $1000 into restoration.

My opinion

If you have a 3 day return policy. Return it and use the $1000 + watch price and buy her a new watch

Many thanks for your replies! I was shocked too as this was from a well known watch restorer in the UK who from looking at the photos straight away said it was a fake.

I plan to still return as the condition is quite poor.

I went ahead and purchased this one instead, what do you think? Thanks for your help.

Also, how much does the Italian day/month effect value?
I should think "not at all". There are multiple "official" languages of Switzerland, Italian being one, and French and German the others. You might even be able to purchase English disks and have them swapped.

Thanks so much for your reply. I'm sure it won't bother her 😉 Good to know

Yes, poor condition. Not surprised it wasn't recognized, as it's not exactly a common model.

The watch looks correct, but it will need a service.

Thank you. Can you tell from the photo of the movement it will need a service?

Well, aside from the dirt and fibers laying on the movement, unless you have proof that the watch was serviced by a watchmaker known to do good work, I would suggest it would be a prudent thing to get it serviced or at least inspected by a watchmaker you trust.

If the seller made claims of a recent service, unless they provide you real proof, such as an invoice that can be tired directly to this specific watch by the serial number, I would take the claim with a grain of salt.
