Rare 90s Mediocrity - The Omega Maison Fondee En 1848

These watches aren’t bad watches or anything, the movements are ETA and reliable and accurate, the cases are well made and the bracelets are above average for the era being borrowed from the Speedmaster Reduced.

In a lot of ways it sort of reminds me of the Porsche 924, with an unremarkable yet well made and dependable power plant, a minimum of trimmings, an abundance of austerity and a design low point for a quite proud brand.

But also like the 924 it’s one of the watches that helped Omega on its way from limping in the 80s to walking in the 90s to learning how to fly again in the 2000s.

I wouldn’t buy one at over a grand, probably not at under a grand either just on taste grounds and the name is a bit… much.

Not quite as catchy as Speedmaster is it?

But… it’s interesting that this is a thing

So I’m not recommending anyone buy this but its interesting to know what it is and seeing the listing jogged my memory about these unusual but bland critters.

If we are going to make the Porsche comparison, it would be Luxor beige over truffle interior….you really have to want any 924 to embrace that color combo.
