Hi guys,

I picked this up today, kinda wanna make a sharing

Omega Geneve Grand Sport Racing dial Ref 135.041, were introduced to Canadian market as limited edition back in 1968 (what i found online)

Not the best condition, but still a cool looking dial.
I love the black matt texture kinda mimicking asphalt racing track.

But sadly, i guess the lume on marker had fell off at some point of its life. By logic, if hands are lumed, index must be lumed too, but i heard someone said otherwise that Omega doesn't always (100%) following this practice. So.. who knows..

By looking it close up, it doesn't have any residue of the lume. It left me guessing.

The original plexi glass is slightly discoloured and have some tiny cracks, so I am thinking of replacing a new one.

Anyway, still love it!

Hi @Dansnoppydoo - congrats on a cool Genève!

Now you only need to find the funky original strap to match the rest of the watch 😁

If you look closely on the dial macros, you can see slightly darker spots next to the hour markers and this is where the lume would have been. On your third to last photo it is pretty clear. The Grand Sport comes as a non-lumed variant too.

Here is an example of a lumed specimen:

...index must be lumed too, but i heard someone said otherwise that Omega doesn't always (100%) following this practice. So.. who knows..

There might be a few exceptions (such as special edition dials or similar), but certainly not to any noticable degree.

I have yet to see any convincing arguments for this having taken place at any time.

Hi @ConElPueblo , Thank you, I think it's nearly impossible on finding the NOS funky strap as they are consumable. 👎 was thinking of customsing a strap matching to that.

Seen some full set NOS Grand Sport on some other sites, definitely a jaw dropper!

Apart from that, yes I notice the darker spot now, thank you for pointing it out. Unfortunely, i guess they were scratched off by some watchmaker in the past.

I can't imagine if those aged tritium lume were still on, it will look even better.

Cheers
Dan

I am sure that a trip to a relume artist such as James Hymann will make it look amazing!

I don't think the strap on it now is bad, tbh - you could try a perforated racing strap with contrast stitching?

Very nice watch. A new crystal can make a world of difference.

Great idea! Never thought of that!
Now you're leaving me in a dilemma of deciding what colour the strap should be 😁😁😁

Maybe I'd take it for relume someday. But there is no reputable watchmaker in my area, so I'd rather wait than letting some inexperience watch maker ruining the dial.

Thank you for sharing.

Yea right! The discoloured crystal kinda making the dial to a brownish tone.

I think i need to start looking for a NOS signed crystal

Seems like the lume has never been on the dial. May I ask you to share the serial number?

Hi, the serial start with 32 million, dated to 1970.
Due to security concern, I couldn't share the serial publicly on internet.

After the darker spot being mentioned by one of our respectful member, I now realize the darker spot is uniformly and evenly distributed among indexes, so i believe they were fell off at some point.

But I could be wrong, please share us what you think on this.

Cheers

Picked up a 135.041 last year, not nearly as cool as the racing dial....Jealous!

Thank you.

I was really lucky coming across this one and be swift enough to grab it before other did. I will just be grateful 😁

You are right, from the macro we can observe the “shadow” of the lume.
Last question, did you buy it in Europe or elsewhere?

Here is another great looking model of a watch that was completely unbeknownst to me and that I am able to become familiar with thanks to OF and it’s great members. 🥰

No problem mate, i think the fun part of watch collecting is to share what you have, especially rare piece.

I bought another one which i believe is a rare piece from the same collector, wait till i get it on hand and shoot us some photos 😁
