Yesterday my mother gave me this watch
She believe my father bought it in the 50s sometime, but she wasn’t sure.
It has not been used for many years and doesn’t work.
I think I will try to get it serviced but am not sure if it’s worth it.
This Omega has spent its whole life in the northern parts of Sweden.
Anybody who knows something about this model?
    Thankfully
    Göran Larsson,
    Gothenburg, Sweden.

    I believe they are a "70's item.
Nothing wrong with them. Well worth servicing, IMO. Use an independent watchmaker, don't send it to Omega.
Your hands & dial look great.

If it's not working, leave it with the watchmaker for a quote, so you know what is wrong & how much it will cost. Then make a decision.

If you plan to wear it, it will need a new band, possibly a new crystal.
If the watchmaker wants to polish the crystal, say "yes, but don't polish the case."

It is certainly worth getting repaired/serviced. The dial, and hands look to be in good condition and a new crystal and crown (wrong one is fitted) will make this an excellent watch. Maybe a new strap too.

Yes, this particular watch was produced from 1967-79. Yours has the reverse bulls-eye dial and is a model 166.0039 powered by a calibre 565 movement. Crystal could certainly do with a polish, but the case looks quite sharp and the dial is good too.

You can read about these models here

    Cheers

Great forum this....seems to be many experts on watches.
After reading about the model I’ve decided to leave it for service.
