If you are looking at Gold Cap watches need to look for case wear often on lugs. Easy to miss depending on photo quality.

Keep an eye on the Private Watch Sales and Watches for Sale threads here on OF from trusted OF members (Private Sales) and vetted dealers (Watches for Sale).
You will generally do better buying from trusted OF members
Also the Recomnended EBay Listings are vetted listings with country of origin of seller these Geneve show up quite often.
Good luck !
Great points! Am on a bit of a deadline with the birthday coming up later in the month, so not sure I’d find what I’m looking for on the forum before then, but will keep an eye out. Thanks!

Hi ! Based on my experience and purchase, I believe these watches should not be more than 500 to 600 € Perhaps you would be able to have the forum look at the movement ?
I asked the seller if they could send a video of the movement and they said they’re not sure how to take the back off - so not possible for that one unfortunately. Great point though, thanks.

If you are London based, may I recommend J.E.Allnutt in Midhurst? You probably won't get that exact style of watch, and you may end up spending a bit more. But you will get an original watch in good condition with the backup of a guarantee.
I have no connection other than being a customer. I accidentally stumbled across their shop a couple of years ago. I wrote about them here: https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=187&t=1997939 You'll have to dig through the thread to find the Allnutt post.

What a fun thread! And thanks for the recommendation - I’m the other side of London so it’s not close by, but we might be able to make a trip there. Having browsed so many watches for my partner I’m now thinking I want a nice watch for myself! And ladies’ watches seem to be somewhat cheaper, which is a bonus. Cheers!

Thanks all for the replies - I’ve ended up ordering the first one I posted, which people had positive comments about save for the price. I got the price down to mid £500, so feeling okay about that - a bit over the odds, but not terribly so. It should arrive tomorrow.

Any advice on what to do from there in terms of inspecting it, making sure it works well, etc? I bought it with the enhanced security promise offered by Chrono24 for professional dealers, so if there’s a problem there is an option to return…

Looks nice, price is fine, just set it, wind it up and if it’s still keeping time after 24 hours - gift wrap it 👌
