Omega Genève Automatic - Do I have a bargain?

Dear OF Family,

My cautious search for my first Omega is still going on on various platforms. While I encounter many options, I'm only trying to post about candidates who would worth both your and my time.

The watch in question in this thread is an Omega Geneve Automatic Day-date; it has no papers nor box, got its original buckle and crown, seems to be working fine and its latest price is ~USD 485.

What I'm asking you are;
1- Whether it's a bargain considering the state and qualities of the watch?
2- Are there any major issues you see in the pics?

I'm sorry for the poor quality of pics but this is what I received so far:

Yep I agree $485 can buy a lot better condition vintage Omega than what's pictured. Perhaps watch the sales section on this forum.

Many, but not all, on OF prefer the older Geneves, generally with either just date or no date.

This is not the best Geneve by a long chalk - unless you like the day/date option.

I’d prefer a Geneve with an automatic 552 or 565 movement or a handwind 601.

Like the earlier posters, I think you can do much better for that price.

Thank you guys for your valuable inputs, much appreciate them all! I will keep looking into OF and other platforms for better bargains unless the price doesn't dramatically fall. The seller has been slowly dropping the price so might worth reviewing after a while.

I tend to like the option but the price was a bit discouraging. I'm also interested in other options, btw. So I'll keep looking 😀

There’s probably a reason why the price on this watch keeps on dropping 👎

As Spruce noted, the older Genèves from the 50s and early 60s are preferred by collectors. To give you an idea of what an excellent example looks like, here’s my 1959 reference 2903, no date, manual wind caliber 268. If I recall correctly, OF member No Mercy had a nice vintage Genève listed on the private watch sales forum awhile back. I’ll see if I can find it for you.

Haha so true! That's what I told myself, as well 😀

If you are new to vintage watches, I think that finding a fairly priced watch in good condition is a reasonable goal. Trying to get a "bargain" will probably just result in disappointment.

Thanks for the tip, @Dan S . You're right, in fact, "bargain" is too strong a word to refer to what I'm actually looking for 😉

Too late, just got this one below from there... In better condition I believe, surely the movement, and with Day only which I prefer.

For small wrist like mine, it fits perfectly. I do like the earlier Genève models too, though I find the symmetry of this quite well balanced and pleasing to the eyes!

Nice dial on that one.
