Hi everyone, My name is Angel and this is my first post. I recently bought a vintage Omega Geneve 601, but I think it's not original or at least it's a frankenstein watch, because the caseback doesn't match with the movement 601. What's your opinion? Thanks a lot
If the model number is 162.009 then the watch is not correct. 162 = 1 - Gents watch 6 - Automatic caliber 2 - Non Water Resistant Calendar. Why the combination exists I suspect we will never know. If you like it, and you don't intend for it to be a "collectable" keep it and enjoy it. If it bothers you, return it to the seller (depending on the sale description, you may have a case to return).
Thanks, Do you know which model number is the correct one? I can't find a 601 Omega with the same cream dial as mine...
Many different dials were offered, finding an exact match on the internet may not always be possible.
The dial and movement are possibly from a Genève 135.012 (Note that Omega used the same cases for both Genèves and Seamasters). This is an Omega 162.009. https://www.omegawatches.com/watch-omega-geneve-omega-st-162-0009 This is an Omega 135.012 https://www.omegawatches.com/watch-omega-geneve-omega-je-135-0012 You may draw your own conclusions regarding your watch.
Below you can see how different are casebacks for manual and automatic (both random Genève in this case). Domed caseback allows for more room for the auto movement, so when you see a manual Genève o SM in a case with domed caseback you know that it is not right.
