This is not completetley wrong but it`s not completetley right also.
Mainly you have mechanical and electrical movements. The tuning fork movements are electrical and a technic of its own `cause there is no escapement driven by a battery.
So electro-mechanical movements are as an exampel ESA Dynotron or Citizen Cosmotron X8.
I’ll stick with electro-mechanical. They’re not electronic like a Cosmotron (the GX excluded) or Seiko Elnix, and not electric like a Hamilton.
For those to whom tuning-fork watches are new I recommend electric-watches.co as a great reference site and normally a go-to place for repairs if you’re in the UK or Europe but, someone above referred to Paul (the owner) taking a sabbatical so that might not be an option.
It also sounds like Danish watch fans are getting screwed if you can’t send your own watch off-shore to have it professionally (and knowledgeably) serviced or restored. For the rest of us throughout the world Berkavicius is based in Thailand and his rates are very reasonable. He also gives advice on labelling and posting the watches to him. A quick search for ‘The Accutron page’ will bring up his very informative no frills website. An hour there is Time well spent. And there’s a resident OF guy who apparently can forget more than the rest of us know but I can’t recall his name.

In Berkavicius’ own words to me he said the Omegas and Longines were the best quality of the genre even though technically all but the Bulova and Citizen use the same ESA 9162 movement. My understanding was that those two stood out for the general quality of everything else in the watch and overall build.

I agree totally about Spaceviews. Rare indeed to find a factory original but this was complicated by Bulova themselves offering after market conversion kits in the 60’s. I’ve had two really nice examples and RB told me neither came out of the factory as a ‘Spaceview’. They’d be the exception to the rule though in the tuning-fork watch world.

Speaking only for my personal experience, I’ve had about 30 tf watches with a date wheel and three only have been inoperable. So, 10-15%. In time the plastic date-wheels will break though, it’s inevitable.
Bottom line, I think they’re great watches, representing a time when the industry was more imaginative and breaking new ground. And they’re affordable.

And an uncommon and unusual Citizen Cosmotron.
Unusual because although it’s a Cosmotron it isn’t electronic, and has an asymmetric tuning fork. Quite different!
sorry about the photo quality, I suck at photography

Should post a photo or two.

First up a NOS Longines Ultrasonic. Never worn,
My bad. Ultronic, not Ultrasonic

Yeah the Citizen tf are quite unique `cause they have only one coil and were disigned and build by Citizen under licence of Bulova.
Fun fact that today Bulova is owned by Citizen 😉

I have a unusual Rado Electrosonic which we believe is some expensive in a few numbers build modell:

I`m not good at photo also 😒
Please note the dial with cotton texture like the Seiko Grand Quartz of the 70s and this structure from the middle to the perimeter.
The indexes look like tuning forks and the colouring lets say more 70s is not possible 😁
The case is made of some sort of gold coloured tungsten and the crystal is made of cut sapphire with a diamond like finish on the outer perimeter between crystal and casing.
The date on the datewheel is red.

OK this is about tf watches but forgive me that I show just as an example one real 😉 electro-mechanical watch:

This is a Citizen runnin`on 36000 from the Cosmotron lineup also.
No collector really understand why Citizen put the two on the same line maybe they dont wanted to put their CQ on risk.

Thanks @sirtaifun , I got several other ads to the diver 666 feet. The price was $185 at that time.

The one and really only electro-mechanical watch is this BULOVA: 😀, I gladly own as my kitchen-watch with GMT .

(KUNDO produced similar watches....)

Yes I own one of these as well. Brilliant watch and so very 70’s. For me, the perfect tool watch. Can’t scratch the case and cannot break the (seriously amazing) faceted crystal

Great site, thanks.
You’re welcome, although the real kudos goes to the guys who collate all that information and upload it to broaden our knowledge.

No probs. it’s a great dial and definitely not common albeit not rare apparently.
The photo - downloaded (bought?) a macro zoom app for the iPad to bring up that dial. But skills still suck. The dial however, like no other

Here’s my tuning fork watch, serviced by Paul at Electric Watches. Got new day and date wheels and a replacement crystal. Good to go for a decent number of years, hopefully…

I own 11 tuning fork Bulova watches from Spaceviews, 214s and 218s to an Astronaut Mark II and I love them. They run quite accurately and you can't beat the UFO hum!
