Omega Equinoxe Analog doesn't work

Hi everyone,

I recently bought this Omega Equinoxe at an unbeatable price but there are a couple of things to do before it's back on its feet. Mainly changing the battery but that's not too much of a problem. Where I'm struggling is finding two screws to replace the missing ones on the dial (see photo).

Does anyone know what type of screws this particular watch takes? I guess I'll buy some second-hand somewhere on the internet but I have to know which type to buy.

your best bet is to take one of the remaining ones out and measure it, watch supply material houses will have spare screws, just have to know the size you need to order.

Alright, so battery was changed and the digital side of the watch works but not the analog. Any ideas ?

If you can't be more specific you probably want to take it to a watchmaker who works on quartz watches...

I saw that one for sale…. Thought about it, noticed the missing screws and thought that it was highly likely some idiot had been interfering with it’s internals so I decided that discretion was the better part of valour, kept my finger off the buy button and let it go.
I really do hope you get it up and running, courage deserves reward.
In fact I’ll be kicking myself if you do fix it, please let us know if you do……….I probably need a boot up the arse! :whipped: 😁

So basically I changed the battery with a 391/381 MD Silver oxyde (which is what it takes according to a watch tool.net
After that, the digital side of the watch started to work again. Although some numbers don't show at 100% (I'm thinking this is probably a capacitor or resistor problem), that side runs fine and all functions are OK.

The problem comes from the analog side which won't work at all. I'm also thinking there is probably some sort of misconnection on the circuit board but to be honest, I have no idea. I wrote to Omega directly and they said they can't repair these old digital watches as the technology is too old and they don't have the resources (shame). I don't know if a conventional watchmaker could repair this as (same for Omega), it's old digital tech that's impossible to replace.

There are a few specialists,who work on these. Your location mentioned here might give you some educated tips, who can fix it. Good luck !

Must be common for these to be sold with 2 screws missing at diagonals to the case bezel! 😁

Hi are you still in search of two srews ?

For the analog part - likely the coil needs to be exchanged (available at ebay) OR the two contacts on the analog dial are either missing or not placed correctly (tough to get - available at ebay). It can be other problems like sticky movement but aboves two topics are the most likely ones.

For the LCD part - it is likely the two Zebras to be cleaned or even replaced (best from donor watch), the LCD to be inspected if the glass lids are intact (if broken, scratched you need donor watch otherwise end of life cycle) the platine to be cleaned, the two holding clamps to be re-adjusted and refixed. From what you described it seems the platine is intact. Unlikely its a conductive path which is going wrong. If, it can may be repaired but very expensive. More likely its the end of life cycle than for the platine ( not available , if donor watch has a functional one, go ahead with donor watch).

Inside the battery compartment the side contact should be intact too (available at ebay or donor watch). It can break, even its a very solid part, than you would have contact issues so e.g. LCD numbers flickering.

Thanks for the detailed message. Yes I'm still looking for the screws but sometimes on Ebay, there are parts for sale so I'm not too worried.

Regarding the fixes you mentioned, for the Analog part, it may just be the two contacts. They are still in place but when I bought the watch, one was facing the wrong direction and I may have adjusted it wrong. I'll have to check again. For the LCD, I don't think the screen is scratched or anything. If its too complicated to repair, I'll just keep it like it is, it's not too bothersome. Thanks again for the info 😉

Edit : the battery is new. I just also see that with the chronometer it shows 00 II0, upper than 10 seconds it's normal and after 20 it shows a weird sign (photo).
I add also a photo of the hours.
