    Hello-
in the "we all have to start somewhere" vein I am hoping to pick your cumulative brain. Some months ago I began hunting for a replacement to my stolen late-sixties Seamaster DeVille (oh, to be clear; stolen from me...not that I stole it).

But as is common in my life, my attention took a sharp left turn and I found myself fixated on Dynamics, I and II. Perhaps it is ADD.

Six months of reading and gawking (not necessarily in that order) and I still don't feel competent to make a buying decision without asking for advice. During that time I have seen a few Dynamics that interested me, now there's another - but without clear enough information to feel good about the decision.

Trolling this, and other, forums I am amazed at how much knowledge some of you seem to have at your fingertips - and of the time (and money) any of you lavish on your passion. I admit, that scares me a little. Oh, the first step on a slippery slope.

Would you pull the trigger, or steer clear Of this watch at watchestobuy.com? Alternatively, anyone have an excellent source for a Dynamic of pedigree?

    Thanks.

Do you have any more pictures of the case ? It looks like it may be a bit rounded at the edges from being "prepped" by the dealer.

The dial is good & the hands might be original.

How much are they asking for it ?

It looks decent. There's a bit of discolouration on the date window on the crown side, so it would be good to get a movement picture to check that there isn't any water damage. Otherwise, the crown is a service part but that's not a big deal.

The price is ok considering condition and that's its a dealer. Ideally you'd want a bracelet and a bit of a sharper sunburst grain at that price, but the strap and clasp are fairly uncommon so it probably balances out. Try to make an offer if you like this one. It's getting harder to find decent dynamics recently.

Thanks. Difficult as I also fancy this one, but cannot afford both and suspect I'd not wear the Spider as often. Oh, choices.

The spider has very little collector appeal and shouldn't command anything close to the price a good Dynamic 1. Personally I think they're horrible !

I like a man with a strong opinion, you always know where you stand! Did I mention, I am still learning?
Excellent info, how were you able to determine service crown so swiftly?

By the type of Omega logo & the size of the crown. It's also very shiny compared to the case.

I think the spiders are all quartz as well. ulackfocus has a secret fetish for battery powered watches, but most of the rest of us prefer automatics.

Sorry Dennis, we'll let it go one day....

Perhaps not strictly relevant to my original question, but - have you any personal favourites for on-line dealers? For instance, I really like the (sometimes slightly hyperbolic) detail that the people at Vintage-Watches-Collection.com give. In case you are interested:

Sorry, that isn't detail they're giving. It's sales patter.

Every Omega they have looks overpriced, a lot of them look suspiciously like redials but the photography, although detailed, avoids shots that would help tell for sure. The black face dynamic is a case in point. There is no direct shot of the dial and in every shot the hands are placed over the critical parts of the text printing that we would use to analyse it properly.

And did I mention their prices are ridiculous ? For that price I'd expect a bracelet, original papers and box. Not a possibly refinished case (the grain looks suspiciously coarse), generic buckle and strap on a possible redial. Oh, and I've never seen that colour hand on a black face dynamic so that may be a replacement.

I'll post a pic of mine for you to compare it to.

    Please do post!
I am shocked, shocked I tell you, that you suspect people may be less than 100% accurate and forthcoming in their descriptions. If you can't trust the internet, what can you trust?

Wow! Certainly gives me an example of what you meant earlier in referring to a "sharper sunburst grain". Thanks for sharing. Now you have me puzzled, I know I have a reference somewhere to what hand styles and colors were used on which Dynamics, I will find it and refer.
Again, thank you. If you'd like to become a personal shopper, let me know.
