Omega Dynamic III mod

My Dad passed this to me recently. It's a lovely Omega Dynamic III (i think). I'm not sure if it has tritium lume or superluminova but it lasts the night.
He's also made a mod on it which i think is super cool. He managed to find a sapphire crystal cyclop magnifier off some cracked watch and stuck it on over the date.

Here are some photos. What do people think of the mod?

Those newer style dynamics are some cool lookers with that military vibe to the dials. The magnifier looks fine and serves a purpose and your Dad did a good job on the mod, but date windows in general don't thrill me,

Looks cool, if you like the date window/cyclops more power to you the time will come where you may need it (years from now)

I hate the cyclops… 20 years from now I’m likely to feel very differently. I’ll probably need the entire crystal to be a magnifying glass.

It looks good, I really like those dynamics. 😀

That is the SL lume version, personally I’m not a fan of how 1990s Omega tritium fades so that is my preference. I have one too. I rather like the cyclops. They were seen on 1960s plastic crystal Omegas as an option so it’s not as heretical a mod as some might think. Be aware though it’s a model that has gone up in value 5 fold in the past 10 years and if you ever wanted to sell, it might be more of a challenge like that. I’ve not seen that done successfully before, nice work.

I know.. it's been modded but it's by him so it's a special watch to me. I'm 52 and he's 84 so he's been a watch afficinado all his life. Him and his watchmaker buddy did the mod using a Cyclops donated off a cracked Rolex according to Dad. It involved a lot of polishing to get the base perfect to stick on somehow.

He's just passed on to me the following (see photos). The Tissots are matching his/hers (Dad n Mums). Will have to request forumer McGyver to make me a replacement bezel when i have enough funds. Funds at the moment need to go to servicing a few of the watches.

IMHO, the careful and considered addition of the cyclops is a sympathetic and useful mod. It's not like you've drawn a moustache on the Mona Lisa 😜

I consider the Dynamic III as a model whose looks are very much in sync with today's tastes. Enjoy it!

.

I do feel that it does not detract from the watch but enhances its usability to someone older (like me) by helping me read the date.. . I do enjoy the watch very much. I might have to stop using my vintage Seiko Kinetic as my daily watch.

That is a very nice gaggle of watches you have collected there. I really don’t get the dislike of date windows and cyclops. Agreed a cyclops is sometimes overkill and I get the desire to have a clean dial on somethings but do most people actually remember the date and find it unnecessary? I swear I crs and don’t know the date, sometimes even the day without my watch informing me. It’s the 18th right?

The Cyclops is a love/hate for most people but for me it doesn't really matter if a watch has a Cyclops or not. I don't feel annoyed by a date window. I do prefer having a date as I'm pretty forgetful about dates. A case of getting older. Seriously in an age of mobile phones, we have in our phones an accurate time keeper with date calculations to past our lifetime but we still look with longing at the watches on our wrists.

I am sorry for your loss. You have inherited a very cool collection that I am sure holds many good memories. Love the Tissot his and hers. The old Citizen diver is quite cool as well. The cyclops mod is easily reversed if at some point you want it in the original configuration, and it was neatly done. It was done by your father, and is something that makes the watch unique and special to you. I think it is all good. Also, Welcome to the forum! All you need now is an avatar. You can set it by clicking the drop down menu in the upper right of the page. Perhaps something like this:

Thank you for your kind words but Dad's still around..😉. He's just going through his collection and passing it to me to look after / use. Honestly while I like a good watch I am pretty ambivalent about what I wear.

I've been using a Seiko Kinetic for about 20 years because it keeps accurate time. I have a Rolex 1500 and a tag chronometer ( circa 2000 with the curvy bracelet links) but i hardly use them. The last watch I bought was an Invicta Diver (just to play around with watch timings). Dad actually passed me another kinetic. Need to have it looked at.. the rotor has seized.

However i must admit it, out of that collection - the Omega really tickles my fancy.

That Dynamic is pretty cool. The unique date wheel is one of the coolest features, and the mod highlights that. So often the date font is very generic and boring.
