Omega Constellation Quartz Help!

Hey OF,

Hoping to lean on the community here to help me figure out whether or not its worth it to buy this watch!

I have had the Omega Constallation Quartz with its bracelet and octagonal case shape for quite a while. This photo from instagram actually got me hooked - and I've been looking for one since!

Today, while I was doing my usual perusal of stores with vintage offerings in town, I saw this beauty. At first I thought there was an issue with the watch because I couldn't set the minutes hand, but thanks to the tip here I think it's probably the same thing (as you can see from the crown in the photo).

My questions are:
1. Is it a redial? how does the dial/ watch condition look to you - anything wrong with it (without seeing the inside)
2. The store is asking 890 Canadian, which I think is a little steep - curious to know what you think here, and if you have any thoughts on what reasonable price ranges for these guys are.
3. Would you get it?
4. Would also love more information on these watches - I am having difficulty finding much about them...

Some more notes: The bracelet has a bit of stretch, not much, and it's all scratched up, which I don't mind too much. The dial is nice, though I think I would probably prefer not a silver dial like this one, but I can't stop thinking about this watch and how nicely it fits on my wrist! The bracelet isn't long, however, surprisingly, it fits my small wrists perfectly!

Thanks OF

EDIT: to answer the first question: doesn't look like a redial. I have this same ref both in steel and in two tone and they are really beautiful watches if you dig the brutalist and architectonic look 😀. And there is still the in-house movements (cal 1343) in these. The prices of these are usually in 300-800€ range, this example looks bit too worn for the price. The surfaces on the case and bracelet are all brushed, so small scratches don't show so easily, but at this light at least this one looks bit too worn.

Btw the indexes have a really bright mirror polish, they almost look like glass when light reflects off them🥰.

There is a Bulgari Octo vibe which I really like. What is the reference?

ref 198.0117. There is also 198.0114, which is without the integrated bracelet.

For the called price I suggest to find a better example.
The dial is legit but have seen together with the hands and datedisc moisture or even worse acid gas from cheap alkaline batteries who where installed instead of silveroxid batteries which are gastight.
I guess on the back was some inscription because those watches where often gifted by companys to long time employees and someone eradiate that not very well.
Another thing worth to know is that with the Omega 1343 you cant buy the original fitting batteries nowadays so you need an additional spacer for a modern silveroxid battery which is smaller and result in a shorter running time if you`re lucky it last 12 month and there can be other issues to.
If there is some issue with the movement Omega cant help or do some service because they have no parts anymore so you have to find a rare specialist for that very special and very hard to service movement.
Saying all of that I really like this movements to! 😎

My watchmaker at local Omega service center said that these movements (1342/1343) would still be serviceable. For stepper motors, the broken part needs to be shipped to the factory though. My watches haven't yet been in need of service so not first hand experience here about it.

Correct - the parts are all available, so not sure where the information that Omega can't help comes from. The electronic module and motor are sent back for recycling, and a repaired unit would be sent out.

Thank you everyone - super helpful. I had a feeling this was too expensive for the condition of the watch - will see what I can do with my bargaining skills 😉
