·NOTE: I had this watch listed here earlier this Fall, but my description and photos were poor, so I'm trying again with pics and text that do it justice.
For sale is this very nice Omega Constellation Megaquartz f2.4 mhz Aventurine Stardust 196.0013. This is a landmark watch in the development of quartz technology. After the Beta 21 was released in 1970 by a consortium that included Omega and several other manufacturers, Omega began R&D of its own quartz movement. The result is the calibre 1500 series, which vibrated at an astonishing 2.4 mhz, making it still one of the most accurate, highest frequency quartz movement families ever made. I believe this one dates from 1974. These were Omega's most expensive watches at the time (several times more expensive than a Speedmaster Professional). This is a rare horological milestone that doesn't come up for sale often.
Dial: The dial is the star of this watch. it's a bluish-purple aventurine dial with the signature stardust gold flecks. It sparkles like glitter and looks amazing. These typically have problems with cracks developing in the dials, however there are no cracks on this example. It's clean with all printing intact and a beautiful applied red and gold Omega logo at the top.
Hands: The hands are original and blemish free.
Case: The case is in good condition with signs of wear. The original brushing is intact. There are light scratches on all sides. There's one noticeable nick near 4:00.
Bracelet: The bracelet is original, with the correct Omega signed clasp. It has 2 extension links. It fits my large wrist with two positions left to get bigger. The condition is good, with signs of wear. It has light scratches on all links, but no major dings or deep scratches.
Movement: Original calibre 1510 quartz movement. This is the most accurate non-thermocompensated quartz movement ever made. It runs accurately to the original spec, of +/- 1 second per month . The button below the crown is the hacking button, which stops the movement so you can set it accurately. It's a 3 position crown. The middle position allows you to advance the hour hand one hour at a time for quick setting while traveling. The movement is clean, with no signs of battery leakage. I replaced the battery today, so it will not need another for probably a year.
Service History: The watch was partially serviced by Omega in 2019. All gaskets were replaced and the crystal was replaced. The movement was not serviced however since they no longer service these early quartz movements.
Price: $3,000 PayPal only. As before, if it doesn't sell in the first few weeks, I'll slowly start to drop it.
