Incredibly interesting and cool watch, very unique and extremely accurate movement in it, the 2.4mhz Megaquartz. It’s all solid gold which is why it’s so heavy, it looks to be in very nice condition which is excellent, it’s worth more than its gold weight which means it’s worth a fair bit.

The dial is Aventurine and referred to as a stardust dial, very niche watch but this is the ultimate example of Omega’s quartz vintage watches.

Your dad had interesting taste, this wasn’t a common or obvious choice, it’s something very quirky, unusual and expensive, but very cool.

In terms of selling it, the options are eBay no reserve auction, it will get attention and achieve fair market value and likely do better there than many places. You could also list on chrono24, or go to an auction house but I would just take lots of really well done photos and eBay it. Don’t polish it or do anything to it at all either.

Beautiful watch, few were made (100?) and fewer would be around today...
I heard the bracelet was pretty "light with hollow links, to the point that some wealthy collectors were looking at having a heavier copy made!

Adventurine dial is ipnotic. I worked this material for a cufflinks collection with my bespoke tailoring brand, unique 😀

You will need to install a new battery and see if it’s running before listing it. Make sure you tell the watchmaker the dial is quite fragile, I have seen those aventurine dials crack for no reason.

Calling @Tom Dick
Get your wallet out.

There are a few owners of these very rare watches on this forum, myself being one.
It looks in amazing original condition.
Love it.

Great watch , but as stated put a battery and check if they run, if they dont run the problems start here:

Find someone able to repair maintening your original movement this will cost you but they will keep the price up and the originality , asking the EOA at Omega make the link

Or find a donor but this will be not more the same watch and price may reflect the gold price (150 grams)

Don’t suppose you could post some pics of yours, I love these things especially when the light catches that amazing dial just right

you really need a video to see the dial correctly.

Awesome, yea the one time I saw one in person I learned the glitter effect isn’t subtle like a starburst dial, the stardust finish is closer to a disco mirror ball in how it catches the light and dances

I know of 2 for sale right now, both yellow gold, one on it’s original bracelet, one on leather.
If anyone is in the market.

What to do??
The Omega service center was unable to repair it, se picture of return letter.
What is my possibilties now you guys think?

Since its "un-repairable" , it is only the gold that have value now?
How to get most paid, deliver to a gold dealer/shop?

Thanks guys

Bad news!
You could try contacting STS in the UK, they have changed ownership but maybe there's a transition period...depending on what's wrong with your watch (motor or circuit, probably not if it's both) and its condition they could maybe help.
If it's a watch you want to keep you could find a donor too. Actually I recently saw an 18k movement on eBay, can't remember if it was in running order.

What is wrong with the watch? Has anyone tried putting a battery in to see if it runs, has anyone opened the back to check the condition of the movement? It is not too difficult to fit a battery and the case back is screwed on so not too hard to open. Omega policy is not to service these but did they look at it at all?

STS were servicing them but I think not anymore as no more parts. Still worth having a chat with them.

if it is a simple issue and parts not needed Simon Freese (ex STS) might be an option as well

Good luck (donor movement is another option of course if it is broken)

Thanks guys.

I went all the way to Oslo and delivered the watch to the place I have been reading and been adviced to be the best place to handle this kind of "upper class" watch.

https://www.urmaker-bjerke.no/about-us/
in Karl Johans gate, Oslo.

When I delivered it to them and asked for a total service and informed them I dont know anything about the watch but think its just battery, they sent it to Omega servicesenter in Norway.

Urmaker Bjerke then sent me this message 12.Sep 2022 ;

After an examination at the Omega service centre, we have been informed that your watch needs service and must be sent to the factory from the brand workshop, due to the caliber of the movement. The currently assumed price for full service is NOK 7,700.

If there are other costs such as glass, chain, dial restoration and the like, this will be added.

If the final price after examination at the factory does not exceed the preliminary price offer, the repair will be started.

If the price is higher, a new price estimate will be issued. It can take up to 8 weeks as there is currently a delay in analysis/examination at the factory.

If you want the watch to be sent on to the factory, we need an approval from you on the provisionally assumed price.

Delivery time for service at the factory can be up to 6-8 months from the currently approved price offer.

If the watch is not repaired, there is a cost of NOK 650 for examination, shipping and insurance.

Do you want the watch sent to the factory?

Have a good day!

I happily replied the day after and accepted this offer and was looking forward to recieve my Omega in perfect shape and ready to advertise for sale to potensial new owner. With service paper and all.
...Then, both surprising and sad during my waiting for many weeks in excitement to get it in return, I recieved another e.mail 28. Oct 2022

..."The watch was returned from the factory in Switzerland today. Unfortunately, we were informed that this watch cannot be repaired. All parts of the work have been discontinued. Sorry so much for this. I have attached the letter I received from Omega by the watch.

The watch will be available for collection in store today.

Wishing you a good weekend when the time comes "....

So.. I don't know what to do, really.
