Hello everyone! After spending lots of hours reading all your interesting post and see the pictures, I finally got the confidence and bought the watch I have sought after for several years. Knowing that the "black connies" are an extremely dangerous market, I think I finally found a genue piece, with a ORIGINAL black dial. Its a Cal 551, ref 14381 61 SC with af 18.xxx.xxx movement dating it back to 1958/9. Now it just off the the watchmaker for at service and a new crystal! Cheers!
Well the fonts certainly look correct - so congratulations on your black dial. At 18,56xxx I would probably date it a little later at 61-63 ish though.
Very nice watch! Congratulations! The movement looks like it has a lot of dust on it, or maybe it’s a bad photo.
Lovely watch! Welcome to the dark side of the galaxy. I always like the dials without the 'Officially Certified' text when I see them, just that one line less makes it look very clean and balanced. Alas, my own black Connie has the whole spiel and I'd only ever sell it in order to acquire a black Longines Conquest.
Lovely example, congratulations on a great stalk! Another version of the same reference, and I kinda like the third line of script 14381-1 serial # 17,000,xxx Gratuitous picture
TropicConnie you're so right ! Now the hunt goes for another connie with black dial/stainless steel Lovely Connie you have there
Best of luck with your searches. Tropical dial Connies sure are an addictive obsession! If I ever get the urge to sell mine (SS case, black dial, gold markers, black date) I'll let you know.
