Omega Constellation 1956 Dial typo!

Hello everyone.

First time poster. I have got into the vintage watch thing recently and bought this Omega Constellation on ebay a couple of months ago. I am a newbie and sadly attention to detail is not a moassive strong point for me...

The dial has the word "certified" misspelled as "chrtified" - see pic - does this mean it's a bad redial or could such a fault have happened at the factory?

The seller had good feedback and I can provide pics of the movement etc if it helps to ascertain that the watch is legit.

Any help greatly apprecitated.

Your photo isn't showing Dan, edit your post and use the Add photo button in the bottom RHS to upload it. Even without the pic though, based on your description I can be almost 100% certain you have bought a stinker, rather in keeping with your user name.

Welcome to OF, @MrSmelly1977! I am sure that a lot of people here will love to help you in your new hobby, but the above two statements are cause for concern. Please be careful... Post for help before buying and spend some time reading through the old posts here.

The Constellation you've bought is a really bad redial, sorry.

Ok so the watch is genuine, as in not a Chinese copy or similar and you will likely find quite an attractive movement inside, by all means post a pic if you want that confirmed but that is a very poor effort at a redial. After 2 months of ownership I am not sure you have any realistic chance of forcing a return here but you can try I guess. Buyer beware.

If you want to throw a grand at it then maybe. The result will be worth around a grand so go figure.

I guess the alternative is searching for another with a damaged case and a good dial....

Thanks for the help everyone. It seems very clear that this a very bad redial. Clearly I was foolish to buy it and have learned a lesson. I can appreciate this looks like a total no brainer error on my part to Omega collectors!

Do people think I have a just claim for a refund considering that the item was sold as a "1956 Omega Automatic Officially Certfied Constellation" with no mention of a redial? Bought on ebay UK - March 10th this year.

A difficult undertaking for sure. It looks like a 2852 and I'd wager there are many collectors looking for a dial for this reference, be it for a restoration, an upgrade or just to have a reserve dial for future projects. Either way a good dial won't come cheap....and let's not forget about the hands and crown too!

Was it specifically described as having an original dial? Even then two months on I'd say probably not.

Yes, that certainly is an option, there are some very good ones, finding the right person/company can be tricky though.

There is a value in the watch and a value in the lesson you have learned.
Find a nicer original dial... job done. Even a nicer repaint?
I doubt there is a man or lady on this forum who has not made a mistake and paid for it.
It is not the end of the world and a mistake you might never make again (you probably will, I have made a few)

I really appreciate the helpful posts. At this point I am thinking that a good dial repaint might be a decent option. I am sure many purists wouldn't accept that in a watch but I think I could. So if anyone can recommend where to look or any good people in the UK and give a ball park idea how much it might cost that would be great. Either that or I just have to accept and embrace the fact that I own the worlds only Omega Officially Chrtified Chronometer!
