Hi, looking for some comments on the authenticity of this watch I am looking at buying.

I have some concerns about the omega logo and also the different colour of day compared to the date. I suspect this has been serviced by omega and parts changed whilst overhauled however there is no confirmation of this.

The price is £2400 which I don’t think is so unreasonable for an 18k version.

Any feedback would be great thanks.

Dial is not solid gold, it's painted. As for the date wheels, they can age differently.

No specific evidence that I can see that it was specifically serviced by Omega, though of course it might well have been.

what are your thoughts on the overall presentation of the watch?

Its a nice watch but 2400 quid isn’t where they’re at head only at this point

It looks way to shiny for me!
Well its already sold too so not exactly an option but its an example of where prices tend to land, others have gone slightly above or below but around the $2k price mark in USD tends to be about where they’re at in general.

I guess it looks fine. I'm not a fan of this sort. If it makes you happy, see if the seller will accept offers.

So does OM only appear on solid gold dials and not solid gold cases?

Omega supplied Constellations with solid gold cases and also, at an additional cost, ‘Deluxe’ constellations with solid gold cases and solid gold dials.

OM ‘Or Massif’ only started to appear on Constellation dials towards the end of the 60s, so Deluxe dials weren’t marked before that - although they generally had particular ‘fat’ onyx insert ‘tells’.

C cases had slim indices as a design feature, ( so no clue there) so it’s likely some early deluxe versions with gold dials appear without OM on the dial.

Adding to @dsio comment on a realistic price range, this one came from eBay 3 months ago - plain sunburst dial, yes, but 18k and sharp as they get. Was 1400€, so ~1250£, sold by a dealer with good pics, right of return, everything.

I‘m not saying you shouldn’t buy the example you’ve found, just raising awareness that a bit of patience could easily save you 500+£ here. If you don’t mind the price tag but want it now, pay up and enjoy. 😀

There's no strong standard on C-Case's, however this watch seems a bit like a franken to me, wrong crown, possibly professionally refinished case (well done) - and wrong hands, those hands are thin baton hands, this dial should had thicker baton hands

Sweep seconds hand also looks like a newer replacement, I've heard new ones received a pivot and they don't make pivotless any more, this has a pivot, originals didn't

I think with your standards, it should be a pass, but it's still a beautiful watch and the issues aren't that major

Do you think these changes could have been the result in a good old service? Also what is your overall impression on condition?

Case condition is the #1 priority as everything else is more easily fixable, but it's hard to tell from the photos, there's too much light and for gold color cases it can hide a good or bad condition

I would not buy it myself but the condition is good

If I bought this, I'd also buy a pristine 168.029 for a donor, it's the easiest/cheapest way to correct the hands/crown/day/date disks - or you could pay an Omega certified watchmaker, it'll cost the same minus an extra watch - but make sure he can source the thicker baton hands

With this said, if you're not obsessed about 100% model correctness, it's a good watch with seemingly all Omega parts - hands are C-Case hands but they are for 1966 168.017 models
