Hello, I am new to the forum (based in the UK) and i was wondering if someone would be so kind to help me out with my new purchase. I'm not a collector, i just appreciate well engineered, practical watches. The watch in question is a 1966 Omega Constellation, it is 14ct Gold (as marked on the watch case inside), it has a Cal 561 movement (gains just under 1 min a month when worn). Firstly can anyone tell me if the crown looks original? How much would you say it worth? It was serviced last month. I have looked around on various forums but i cant seem to another watch like mine to compare it too, they all seem to be pie pans;. Thanks in advance Mike
Many Thanks efauser, found the info i was after from your link. I don't have a tool to open and hold the case, i will go to my LJS and get them to open it up for me. Thanks again!
What was the Bowie lyric........".....Wham, Bam, thank you ma'am!!.....!" Welcome, and hope you can hang around a bit, we clean-up well, and don't smell too bad.....but be advised, stand upwind.
It is original, although not all had that style of crown. Check on the "Completed Items" section of eBay, make sure to look for sales with the price in green, for an actual sale. The prices are so volatile on these, they are almost like a commodity. Value can be more a matter of timing than anything else. 14K watches were mostly US market pieces, so they are less common than 18K. Dome dials were slighly less popular than pie-pans when new. The pie-pan style is more highly prized today. Many of the dome dialed watches like yours have either been cannibalized for parts or redialled to look like pie-pans. So 14K dome dial Constellations like yours are less common today than say, steel or 18K pie-pans. Hope this helps, gatorcpa
To give you an idea, I had the same model, albeit in 18k, for sale here on Omegaforums a couple of weeks ago: https://omegaforums.net/threads/18k-gold-omega-constellation-168-005-dome-dial.45796/
14k is also somewhat of the standard here in the Netherlands. Dutchies have always been on the stingy side.
I miss typed, I got it for £600. The jeweler missed the 1 off in his listing but credit to him he honored the sale. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/361867271450?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:ITPurchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network All seems to be original, the crystal has the logo in the centre and it was service in December and has 12 month warranty on the movement. I thought I would take a punt not expecting the seller to go through with the sale but they did. Now I have it I'm not that keen on it, and done know when I will use it. As I said in the post I like practical things and I don't love this watch like my EDW (see photo).
Let's cut to the chase on this. You bought it for $600 quid, don't love it and looking to sell. What kind of profit are you planning to make on this, keeping in mind the board's selling rules?
