Omega Constellation 14393 restoration

Hello,

I’d like to restore a Constellation 14393. The dial looks perfect, but the crystal needs replacement and the steel ring is broken.

Does anybody know the replacement part numbers for the crystal (I’d prefer a magnifying glass above the date unless that was not usual with the 14393) and steel ring?

As far as I know a 8270 BOR bracelet would be correct for this watch. But what end links would fit? ‘70’?

What would be the best option to get it serviced? Omega?

Thanks,
Roger

Do not send it to Omega, a qualified independent preferably one with an Omega parts account will be a much better option.

The bezel is going to be tough to find, your best bet would be to have it laser welded.

Thank you. I assume the bezel could be canibalized from another 14939? I am thinking of buying one with a bad dial but good bezel.

You could do that but I would also investigate @X350 XJR suggestion as the original bezel looks very sharp.

Not something a watchmaker would typically do, but they may have a resource for getting it done.

With the price of even crappy Constellations continuing to rise finding a donor won't be cheap, repairing your existing bezel will be more cost effective.

OK, I’ll check local (Swiss) resources and would try watchcaseworks if I can’t find any.

Do you know the number of the replacement crystal that fits 14393?

The plain one for a stainless case is PZ5140. Not sure about the cyclops version.

One more question: what would be the "correct" (like in 'fits the time period') 7-row BOR bracelet for a 14939?:
- 1502 with No.11 end links
- 8270 with No. 70 end links

Thanks. Looks beautiful. It's a 5 row BOR bracelet tough, but I mentioned 1502 in my last post, which I believe was a 5 row BOR. I am looking for a 7 row BOR for my 14393. Is 1503 the correct bracelet?

As an alternative, I believe the bracelet 7912 would fit as well, but as far as I have seen the bracelet alone would cost about twice as much as the watch. There is a very nice picture that I believe shows a watch owned by member JohnSteed:

And here is a photo of my other one without date. It came with the original box and some papers as well as the 7912 bracelet and an original Omega leather strap. I always wanted one with date and gold markers, pointers:

Laser welding just doesn’t seem to work on broken bezels. Tried it a couple of times and it always recracks in the same spot during installation.

It's all down to the skill if the craftsman doing the work, I've had the opposite experience, both repairing split bezels and reattaching broken lugs.

hoipolli, that's a great looking example. What numbers do the end links have?
