Omega constellation 14393, real?

Hello everyone,

My name is Mélanie, I’m based in France and new to the forum. Thank you in advance for welcoming me.

I would appreciate your opinions regarding an Omega Constellation ref. 14393 that I am considering purchasing. This is a model I am particularly interested in.

The watch is being offered by a local watchmaker specializing in vintage timepieces. It is stated to be fully serviced and will come with an original gold-plated Omega buckle.

Before proceeding, I would like your input on the authenticity and overall correctness of the watch:
- Is the dial and the presence/position of the crosshair correct for this reference (alignment with the text)?
- Is the crown original and appropriate for this model and period?
- Do you notice any components that appear incorrect, replaced, or worth further attention (dial, hands, etc.)?

Thank you very much in advance for your help and for sharing your expertise.

Welcome and good on you for asking before buying.

The crown isn’t correct for the model. Not a big deal if the price reflects it.

More worryingly, the pics show a watch that shows dirt around the bezel, a scratched plexi, an old gasket, a dirty movement. That’s 4 red flags if the seller claims it was “professionally serviced”.

There’s significant corrosion around the edge of the case back and on the equivalent parts of the case.

I don’t see the buckle in any pic but I have a feeling it might not be great, either.

The watch is ok-ish, if the price is right. It’s not the nicest dial or case, not a sought-after configuration. I’d say as is, something like 500-600€ might be fine (to factor in the cost for an actual service), although personally I’d pass for that kinda money and look for something from a trustworthy seller / in better shape.

Agree. Basically correct except for the crown, but very rough and dirty. This had better be a real bargain.

Greetings Melanie and Welcome
I am also an admirer of this reference as I like dome dial Constellations in lyre lug case.

Your questions have been answered above While everything (except crown) look correct and original, the watch looks dirty and grungy, which it should not be after a service.

Not the best place to start IMO.

I don’t think this watch has been serviced like the seller claimed. Like others have said, aside from the incorrect crown, everything else looks original to me.

Sorry for my english. Thank you very much for your replies.
I misspoke earlier: the watch has not yet been serviced.
Which crown corresponds to this reference?
Do you think it would be better to buy a steel model?
That said, I must admit I prefer the gold-plated version

Another welcome @Mel57
The correct crowns for this reference are the thin decagonal or thin scalloped crowns.

Steel watches are generally more desirable than gold capped (not gold plated) but beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Due to the softer nature of the metal - Gold capped watches are more likely to have seen some polishing of the case and lugs than SS.

This is my SS no date version for reference. With the correct thin decagonal crown.

Thank you! I must admit that yours in steel is also very beautiful! Personally, I prefer the gold-plated version, as I find it brighter and perhaps a bit more feminine as well.

The seller is offering the watch fully serviced and cleaned, with an original decagonal crown, an original pin buckle, a new strap of my choice, and a light polish if I wish, all for €2,400.

What do you think?

That’s more than twice of what the watch would be worth…

That's an enormous amount for that watch. Personally, I would pass.

Crazy high price. Stick around here and follow Private Watch Sale thread. Something nice will come up with a bit of patience.

Thank you, as I mentioned previously everyone has their personal taste and there is nothing wrong with Omega’s gold capped watches.
As others have said, a price of €2,400 is quite outrageous for this watch - in this condition and with or without a service €1,200 would be a reasonable price.

( I keep mentioning gold capped as this is a far superior finish, with a thick layer of 14k gold mechanically applied over a base-metal body. With a solid 14k bezel.
Whereas gold plating is a very thin layer of gold electrically applied to a base metal body and bezel. )

Ok, I will therefore decline.
Thank you very much in any case for your valuable advice. I will follow your recommendations, keep an eye on sales on the forum, and be patient.
I’ll still throw a message in a bottle, just in case: if anyone happens to have one for sale, I would be interested.
Do you think it would be appropriate to post a “wanted” ad for this watch on the forum?

If a watch of this reference were to be for sale on this forum, and given that I live in France, do you know whether shipping would be complicated?

You need to have been around for a while with 200 posts before you can post want to buy but you can certainly monitor sales thread and send DM to seller and discuss a purchase.
There are many members in EU and France and most other members will ship internationally so not complicated.

That’s very much dependent on you and the seller. Each seller may offer slightly different shipping terms (for example some US sellers say US sales only). When I sell I generally ship worldwide either by Royal Mail International or DHL.

You would need to discuss this with a seller regarding a potential purchase.

You were right to pass on this one though.

Mel I think you should hold out for one like this, bought from an OF member. The crown is original and it has the full set of papers and inner and outer boxes.
